Oklahoma State Cowboy Back Austin Jarrard Enters Transfer Portal

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State cowboy back Austin Jarrard has entered his name into the transfer portal after just one season in Stillwater.

247Sports was first to report.

Jarrard’s decision to enter the portal comes a week before the start of spring football.

The 6-3, 245-pound tight end out of Sacramento, CA and American River Community College played in three games this past season but failed to record any stats. It took him a while to get adjusted to playing at Oklahoma State as there wasn’t a JUCO season prior to him arriving in Stillwater due to COVID-19.

However, it was injuries and something that Oklahoma State wasn’t aware of prior to his arrival that ultimately led to his transfer.

As a senior in high school, Jarrard caught 52 passes for 1,077-yards and 14 touchdowns, while averaging 20.7 yards a reception.

In his lone season at American River C.C., he had 26 receptions for 310 yards and three touchdowns, which earned him All-Conference.

Jason McEndoo will have a handful of cowboy backs to work with this spring and upcoming season, including a guy who developed well throughout the 2021 season, redshirt senior Braden Cassity. There’s also redshirt sophomore Quinton Stewart, redshirt freshman Luke McEndoo and true freshman Tabry Shettron out of Edmond Santa Fe.

I would guess it means it's something Robert wasn't going to disclose as it was told to him in confidence.

yeah.. but why put it in the article then?

it adds no real value, and only raises more questions.

Why didn't OSU know... did we not do our due diligence? Was it grade related and we can't talk about it because we're reporting it as a self-reported violation?

teasing the readers and leaving them empty seems a bit self-serving

Clearly it means we would never have admitted him had we known. It also clearly signals this loss had nothing to do with talent or his desire to stay. Further it tells me Gundy doesn't accept sub-standard personnel. We don't need the details.

But I think MOST of us, including you, get that.

Not sure what it means, but it was a bit like Cal said, kind of like a name drop reference without the details. My guess is we missed something.....but who knows what.

I'm going to go with "poorly worded, last minute excuse for him leaving" or "a poor follow up by our coaching staff to discover an injury issue prior to offering a scholly" OR "we've never really developed a player at that position so it doesn't matter if he stays or goes".
But, best of luck to the kid. He is always a Cowboy if he wants to be.
I know there are rules, but do we really want to follow them now?

I've had difficulty understanding the value of our CW back position for several years. Statically, it's a nothing burger. Appears to be limited scholarships available for this position but those given don't seem to stay. I'm puzzled by what our thinking is here.

naw... you have to go with IT'S CLEAR, cause that's what Gumby said it was, and that MOST of us knew that, except for you, and me and 72, and most of the other posters on this site.

Austin Jarrad's exit - an analysis

- An athlete that enters the portal in conjunction with "something that Oklahoma State wasn't aware of prior to his arrival that ultimately led to his transfer" will in all likelihood not be welcomed back to the program if he decides not to transfer and thus will result in the loss of any financial assistance at the end of the current semester.
- Athletes in good standing with the HC and/or the University typically do not enter the portal the week before spring practice
- Athletes that are dismissed or choose to leave the program mid-semester, but intend to continue to pursue their athletic career, typically do so as a result of an off the field issue
- Historically, Gundy does not tolerate knuckleheads on his roster
- Gundy has dismissed many athletes that do not fit the "Cowboy Culture" over the course of his tenure, several mid-semester.
- We're not aware of any athlete being cut loose or dismissed from the program over an injury or recently discovered medical issue
- It is possible an athlete with an underlying medical condition, previously undisclosed by the athlete who participated against medical advice, would no longer be allowed to participate, thus leading to his departure.
- We should not expect Pokes Report to disclose an issue that lead to an athlete's dismissal or departure if that issue was not public knowledge. Especially if that issue were legal, academic or medical in nature.
- We should not expect the coaching staff to disclose to the media an issue that lead to an athlete's dismissal or departure if that issue was not public knowledge. Especially if that issue were legal, academic or medical in nature.

Is it really necessary for fans/readers to have the minute details of a mostly inconsequential roster change? Or is it more fun just to critique the author?

and "analysis".... typically is not laced purely with conjecture

typically, historically, could, should, etc...etc..

good analysis that I've seen are fact based.

I was not going to respond but Mr. Gumby from pokey land just made me furious with all the negativity. I can tell you that there was no medical, educational (came in with a B average AA degree, or any other problem. Poorly worded sentence says it all. He came in as a receiving tight end and it just didn't work out. I love the Oklahoma program and hope they continue to be successful. Don't try to make something out of nothing.

Glad to hear it wasn't medical or academic. But, very odd he would enter the transfer portal mid-semester, the week before spring practice. That is unless he just found out "it wasn't going to work out".

BTW, the "Oklahoma program" is 90 miles south and wears crimson.
