OSU Freshman Roc Riggio Tabbed Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week Following Bedlam

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State freshman Roc Riggio was tabbed the Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week following his stellar performance in Bedlam this past weekend.

This marks Riggio’s first Big 12 weekly honors, while giving the Cowboys their third award winner this season. Trevor Martin was tabbed Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 21 and Justin Campbell was tabbed Pitcher of the Week on March 28.

Riggio was electric from the plate throughout the past week, which includes the midweek non-conference matchup against Wichita State, as well as the Bedlam series. He went 6-for-17 with five RBIs, three doubles and two home runs, which gave him a .353 batting average and an .882 slugging percentage.

His piece de resistance came in the late rally on Saturday night when he went 3-for-4, which included his two home runs, a double and five RBIs. One of his homers, a two-run shot, came in the eighth inning with the Pokes trailing 7-5 to tie the game up at seven.

The Bedlam series was especially kind to Riggio as he posted career-highs in several categories, including hits (3), runs batted in (5), doubles (1) and home runs (2).

A rather appropriate bookend to a stellar week of play, Riggio has a chance to continue his hot streak from the plate Tuesday evening as Wichita State comes to town for another midweek non-conference series.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
