Gajewski Throws Out Some Good Ole Bedlam Conspiracy
STILLWATER – It’s finals week in Stillwater and it’s Bedlam week in Big 12 softball as 14-1 Oklahoma State will travel to 14-1 Oklahoma for a three-game showdown to decide the Big 12 regular season softball champion. Sure, Oklahoma is the monster of college softball, ranked number one and sporting a 45-1 overall record. The Cowgirls are coming off losing a quick two-game series on the road at Florida State last Thursday and Friday. Oklahoma State is No. 7 in the country at 38-9.
Today in meeting with the media, Oklahoma State head coach Kenny Gajewski was like actor Robert Conrad in the old Eveready battery commercials. Gajewski was a little defiant, even a little militant about his rivals. First he was asked if the two teams should play when Oklahoma leaves the Big 12 for the SEC in two years or whatever it ends up being.
“I don’t know, you’d have to ask Patty that,” Gajewski answered. “I don’t know why we wouldn’t. We don’t run from anybody, so you’d have to ask Patty or her director of ops because that is who I usually talk to. We’ll be right here. I mean, right here.
“If we do it, we’ll do it fairly,” Gajewski added. “There and here (one season) or one year here and then one year there. We’ll do it right. I mean they don’t hold anything above me or us. I want to play them. It makes sense. I mean we’re right here.”
That was good enough, but Gajewski as if he had a crystal ball that told him the happenings in the afternoon would have the NCAA looking for NIL misdeeds and ready to punish the schools with renegade boosters and NIL collectives. By the way, he talked a lot about that topic, NIL too. However, he referenced something I have said and wrote about her at Pokes Report. He talked about “chaos” and how the Power Five in college sports could come apart only to roll back up in a new grouping or organization.
“I don’t even know if they’re going to go to the SEC,” Gajewski wondered out loud. “Do you think so?”
Guerin Emig of the Tulsa World answered, “Oklahoma?”
“Yeah, do you think that is all going to happen,” Gajewski responded.
“(Are) you talking about when or if,” countered Emig.
“I don’t know. I just think there are a lot of unknowns, you know what I mean. I think it is going to be interesting. I’m a conspiracy guy,” Gajewski said. “I just think this whole thing is going to blow up. I do. I just think this whole thing is going in a weird place and everybody is jockeying. I don’t know, until it happens, happens for sure and they have that patch on their stuff that doesn’t say Big 12, but says SEC then okay.”
It's Bedlam week and Kenny Gajewski had an audience today. He’s made it with his program so he constantly has an audience. I love what he is doing with it. This is fun!
