DALLAS, Texas – Oklahoma State had it set up for another narrow win over regional rival and nationally-ranked Dallas Baptist. In the top of the eighth with two on and two outs Griffin Doersching doubled down the leftfield line to score Roc Riggio and give the Cowboys a 7-6 lead over the home standing Patriots.

The DBU fans didn’t give up and stayed with their team on a warm and humid night at Horner Field. They were rewarded as Ryan Wrobleski drew a one-out walk from Cowboys closer Nolan McLean and then after a fly put to left for the second out, Boayne Jones stepped in and took a McLean slider deep and well over the fence for a 410-foot shot. The two-run homer was a walk-off win for Dallas Baptist at 8-7.

The loss drops Oklahoma State to 34-14 on the season while Dallas Baptist climbs to 31-17. Both teams are way up in the NCAA RPI as the Cowboys came in No. 3 and Dallas Baptist was No. 6.

Oklahoma State took the lead in the top of the first when Roc Riggio scored on a sac fly by Doersching. Doersching finished the night one-for-three with two RBI. Riggio, who later doubled in a run in the second inning to tie the game at 2-2, and then scored the lead run for the Pokes in the eighth finished one-for-three with an RBI and two runs scored.

The two teams combined for five home runs as DH and former Texas Tech Red Raider Nate Rombach hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning.

Thompson trots home after his homer.

Jake Thompson tied the game at 3-3 when he hit a solo shot in the top of the third inning. It was Thompson’s 11th round tripper of the season.

In the bottom of the sixth, DBU’s head coaches son Luke Heefner, a freshman hit a solo home run. Later in the inning Jace Grady hit a two-run shot and Dallas Baptist retook the lead at 6-5. The Cowboys tied the game 6-6 in the top of the seventh when David Mendham homered for the Pokes, his eighth homer of the season.

It all set the stage for DBU’s dramtic bottom of the ninth walk-off win. Oklahoma State used six pitchers with McLean getting the loss to go to 1-1 on the season.

Zach Ehrhad had three hits to lead the Cowboys on the night and Jake Thompson, Marcus Brown and freshman Aidan Meola had two hits each.

Oklahoma State returns to O’Brate Stadium and conference play on Friday when they host Texas Tech to start a three game series at 6 p.m.

Very frustrating loss, the kind that sucks the life out. That's baseball though, it happens. DBU is a good team, but we should've won. We had it and let it slip away on a slider that stayed up. Again, it happens and we want Nolan on the mound in those situations 100% of the time. One thing I love about Josh is he always uses losses as a way to get better. This is a character building loss and a lesson in bouncing back, which we'll need to do this weekend. That error by Griffin in the first inning came back to haunt us for sure. Everything is in front of us, Go Pokes!
