Many Oklahoma State Prospects Show Up on Texas Football Lists
STILLWATER – First let’s start with the Oklahoma State commitments in their 2023 recruiting class. So far, the Cowboys have 10 pledges in the 2023 recruiting class that will first be able to make their commitments official on Dec. 15, which is the early signing date on the NCAA Recruiting Calendar. In the 10 verbal commitments as of June 26, only four are from the State of Texas. That is headlined by a prospect that is being pursued by rival Texas. Dallas South Oak Cliff edge rushing defensive end Billy Walton (6-3, 215) is ranked 58th by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football in their Texas Top 100 prospects for 2023. Walton, who committed to Oklahoma State in April is on the inside cover of the magazine with several coached including head coach Jason Todd and several of his Golden Bear teammates.
Last season Walton with his 55 tackles and 15 sacks helped South Oak Cliff win the first football state championship by a Dallas Independent School District high school in 60-years. All of us sons of DISD football (I’m a Dallas W.T. White player from 1975-77) were so proud of the Bears in their 23-14 win over Liberty Hill in the Class 5A Division II Championship Game.
Oklahoma State fans have to be hoping the Pokes hang on to Walton’s commitment. Early on the Cowboys also offered SOC cornerbacks Jayvon Thomas and Malik Muhammad (three interceptions last season). Muhammad is the cousin of current Oklahoma State starting cornerback Jabbar Muhammad and former Cowboys corner and now NFL corner A.J. Green. He has narrowed his list to Texas, Texas A&M, and Alabama. Thomas is committed to Texas A&M.
Of the Cowboys other 2023 pledges, defensive lineman Ricky Lolohea (6-3, 277) of Euless Trinity was listed as a “Best of the Rest” player on the defensive line making him a top 30 defensive lineman in Texas. Dylan Smith (5-11, 170), the younger brother of Oklahoma State redshirt-freshman safety Cam Smith out of Braswell High School near Denton is listed on the “Best of the Rest” cornerbacks. Camron Heard (6-1, 170) is a quarterback at Houston Furr High School and he was listed by Texas Football as a “Best of the Rest” player at wide receiver.
Players that Oklahoma State is actively pursuing and has a solid chance to add to the 2023 class including the official visitor from this past weekend in running back Parker Jenkins (5-11, 185) and the standout from Houston Klein Forest was the No. 85 player on the Texas Football Top 100 list. He was on the visit with his mother and his younger brother, a junior linebacker at Klein Forest Carter Jenkins (6-1, 190). He is the No. 3 in the pictures with Parker wearing his No. 6.
Two players that Oklahoma State has a strong shot at are Texas Football Top 100 No. 74 in cornerback Warren Roberson (5-11, 174) of Red Oak. The talented Roberson has been on campus many times including being there to watch “The Show” camp on June 6.
Mansfield Timberview safety Jordan Sanford (5-11, 183) made an official visit on June 8 and he is definitely in the mix. In fact, he could end up being the next commitment. Sanford is the No. 93 player on the Texas Football Top 100 list.
Other players that made the Texas Football Top 100 prospects list that factor large in Oklahoma State recruiting include No. 29 Isaiah Robinson (6-7, 283) of Arlington Lamar. Robinson is expected to visit Oklahoma State officially during the season. Samuel Omosigho (6-2, 195) is a linebacker out of Crandall, Texas. He is listed No. 38 on the Texas Football Top 100. Another linebacker prospect offered and uncommitted is Cedar Hill’s Kylan Salter (6-1, 208) and he is No. 67. Defensive end Trey Wilson (6-3, 244) from Lakeview Centennial is No. 79.
Other prominent prospects that Oklahoma State appears to have a solid chance to end up with include jumbo wide receiver Lonnie Johnson (6-4, 205) of Keller Timber Lake High School, Lovejoy wide receiver Kyle Parker (5-11, 175), Dallas Parish Episcopal defensive end/linebacker Tre Williams (6-1, 216), and Waco Connally corner Jelani McDonald (6-2.5, 190) that all made the “Best of the Rest” lists at their positions.
Prospects in the class of 2024 that Oklahoma State has offered that made the Texas Football Top 100 for 2024 list include:
Note: Check down at the first defensive end as you’ll find one of the best names I’ve seen in a long time.

Rarely, do I call out Texas Football, but one omission they have on their 2024 list at tight end is Joshua Smith of Crandall. I saw him at “The Show” camp the night he was offered by Oklahoma State and the 6-4, 210-pound jumbo receiver and possibly future tight end is a magnificent prospect.
