Oklahoma State and Josh Holliday has added another transfer pitcher during this offseason. Juaron Watts-Brown, a transfer from Long Beach State announced his commitment to the Pokes via Twitter.
Watts-Brown is a 6-3 right-handed pitcher out of Hanford, CA, who had a really strong season this past spring with the Dirtbags. As a redshirt freshman, Watts-Brown finished the season with 3.68 ERA, including going 4-4 in in 73.1 innings pitched in 15 appearances. He recorded 111 strikeouts to just 29 walks, including 50 hits, 33 runs, with 30 of them being earned.
However, he really came on strong down the stretch of the season as he went 3-0 with a 1.64 ERA with 55 strikeouts and allowing just a .147 batting average in the month of May. He set the Long Beach State single-season record for strikeouts per nine innings with 13.62, as well as completed the first complete game no-hitter in program history against UC Riverside on May 8, which included 16 strikeouts, one shy of setting the program single-game record.
He’s currently playing for the Falmouth Commodores in the Cape Cod league, where he’s sitting with a 3.70 ERA in eight starts and currently leads the team with 45 strikeouts.
Holliday and Co. has been solid in the transfer portal as they’ve added BYU pitcher Janzen Keisel, Cal Baptist outfielder Chad Castillo, LSU infielder Brennan Holt, Arizona first baseman Noah Turley and St. John’s pitcher Brian Hendry.
