Nice Company on All-Bowl Team for Presley

STILLWATER – It started with a deep route that Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders threw hoping that freshman slot receiver Brennan Presley would see and make the necessary adjustment to catch. Presley saw it and as he often did in his prep career, Presley out maneuvered the defender to get to the ball, make the catch, and then get the ball over the plane and into the end zone. That was the first of three touchdown receptions that Presley had in the Cowboys 37-34 win over Miami, Fla. in the Cheez-It Bowl. That performance had the Associated Press placing Presley on their annual All-Bowl team in college football. What is even more thrilling for Presley and impressive to anybody is the other receiver on the team is Heisman Trophy winner Devonta Smith of Alabama.

Presley makes his first touchdown catch in the Cheez-It Bowl.

Smith had seven receptions for 130-yards in the Crimson Tide’s CFP semifinal win over Notre Dame in the Capitol One Rose Bowl in Arlington, Texas. Presley had six receptions for 118-yards in the Cheez-It Bowl. Smith also won the Biletnikoff Award and the Maxwell Award.

Presley’s performance gives him a head start on being recognized as one of the up and comers for the future at receiver. He is an electric performer that will also be featured on kickoff returns and possibly on punt returns for next season and beyond. 

His other two touchdowns came on a comeback route over the middle that he broke off into a 32-yard touchdown. He had a 16-yard scoring play in the second half on a skinny post.

Besides Presley, Texas freshman running back Bijan Robinson was on the A.P. All-Bowl team as an all-purpose back. Robinson rushed for 183-yards on just 10 carries with one rushing touchdown and two touchdown catches in the Valero Alamo Bowl win over Colorado. Oklahoma lineman Erik Swenson was named to the team on offense and had the highest grade on any linemen in the bowls by Pro Football Focus. Iowa State linebacker O’Rien Vance had two fumble recoveries and four tackles, one for loss, in the 34-17 Play Station Fiesta Bowl win by Iowa State over Oregon.

Presley will be a foundational player coming back next season on offense for the Cowboys and likely his continued emergence was what spurred veteran slot receiver Landon Wolf to go in the NCAA Transfer Portal.
