Brendon Evers to Forego Rest of Season and Prepare for NFL Draft

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State defensive tackle Brendon Evers took to social media Thursday afternoon to announce he’s foregoing the remainder of the season in order to prepare for the 2023 NFL Draft.

Evers suffered an injury in week one against Central Michigan and has been trying to get healthy enough to play since. He’s has had several injuries during his time at OSU, including multiple that have required surgery to repair. He even considered hanging up the cleats and helmet following two major injuries which derailed his 2019 season.

He later ammended his message on Twitter to reflect that this is not a selfish move but one where he physically needed surgery and was unable to continue to play for his team. This is not a selfish player, quite the opposite as he has played for his team and his teammates through some difficult and painful injuries.

Evers is a redshirt senior out of Bixby, OK, who’s in his sixth year with the program. He’s played in five games this season, recording just three total tackles, 0.5 for loss, and two quarterback hurries.

This past season, Evers was one of just two defensive linemen who started all 14 games for the Pokes and was second amongst interior defensive linemen with 21 total tackles, seven of which were solo stops. He recorded at least one tackle in 11 of the 14 games played in 2021, including an impressive performance against Texas Tech in Lubbock, recorded a season-high three tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack.

During his career, Evers has recorded 46 total tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, including four sacks and two pass breakups in 53 career games.

What happens when the entire team is beat up and about to lose multiple games in a row. Sad really.

Someone is gonna come on here and say.. the team is healthier than last week. It's just not true.

I believe this is going to be our finest hour. Evers is a beast and good luck to him in the draft. But anyone who is down on this team hasn't been watching the same games I have. This is a great team filled with great men.

I couldn't agree more - I think the Pokes go out and win on Saturday after putting on the breaks in the 4th quarter last week. Injuries are part of the game as you saw with Texas when they lost Ewers. We need to those "key" positions to stay as healthy as possible which is obvious, I know.

Good luck to you Big Guy, I know you are really beat up and Samuela and the others have been getting more time at that spot than you these last couple of games! I wish nothing but the best and continued at the next level!

I believe if he still had strong confidence we could reach our goals he would continue to play. I don't think he is quitting but the fact this season doesn't have the same trajectory it's smart to get healthy for the pros. Why risk it for a bowl game?

You so called sports journalists sensationalize everything you can…for an Oklahoma State guy you would think you would try to frame things in the most favorable of light… Evers is retiring because he is injured and has been most of his career…you could and should have mentioned that instead of making it sound like his choice was selfish and self serving… think about it

He was, he didn't practice all week. Just like he didn't this week.

I was saying he doesn't need surgery again. He just needs it to heal.

He needs some clean up! This is being sent to his parents and family so I hope they find out who you are and take appropriate action against you, same with the Sanders family!

I have said nothing to even raise any concerns with Evers family. kid is tough as nails. I said he didn't need surgery for it just to get healthy.

What have I said about Sanders that the family is going to come look for me?

Lol, you people just need to take the glasses off most of the time. It's not all rainbows and sunshine like you think. It's ok to be critical of a team.
