Cowboys Start Season Ranked No. 20 In D1 Baseball's Preseason Rankings Release
Many teams on Oklahoma State’s campus have lots of optimism for the future but possibly none more than Josh Hollidays squad that now resides in the beautiful O’Brate Stadium.
The 2020 team, evenly mixed with veterans and youth, went 13-5 before having the season cut short just before conference play began due to the outbreak of COVID-19. The Cowboys were routinely putting on a show on the offensive side of the ball and the pitching staff, who utilized multiple freshman, was beginning to come into shape.
Now, after a strong offseason and a stellar recruiting class, D1 Baseball, the official NCAA Baseball rankings publication, has Oklahoma State at No. 20 in the preseason rankings.
There are five Big 12 teams who cracked the list:
No. 3 Texas Tech
No. 9 Texas
No. 10 TCU
No. 14 West Virginia
No. 20 Oklahoma State
A few weeks ago, D1 Baseball put out a quote that reads, “No program in college baseball is anticipating the start of the 2021 season more than Oklahoma State.”
Head Coach Josh Holliday did a lenghty interview with our own Robert Allen and broke down the Cowboys 2021 squad, position by position. “I really feel solid saying to our fans that this is a good baseball team,” emphasized Holliday.
Holliday told also told robert that they have a schedule that spares no limit to the opposing challenges. Vanderbilt and their two top pitching prospects in college baseball in Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter are coming in for a weekend series.
“What we are waiting on from the Big 12 is how we’re going to lay that out. Is that playing three games over a weekend like we normally have and play midweek games like we normally have or is it to play an increased conference schedule and play four conference games condensed into three days. There are pros and cons to both sides that are being worked through right now,” Holliday said of a process that he is involved in. “I think some form of decision will come soon. Once that decision in made then we will be able to put it on paper and share with our great fans what we have to look forward to.”
So much to look forward to and the final preparation is now underway. Lets concentrate and focus on good vibes for some good weather this January and early February so the Cowboys will be as ready as they can be to show off in their new home.
