Oklahoma State Baseball Clinches Series With 17-7 Win Over ETSU
STILLWATER – In its final non-conference series of the season, Oklahoma State clinched a series win with a 17-7 victory over East Tennessee State Saturday at O'Brate Stadium.
With the win, the 16th-ranked Cowboys improved to 32-14 and will look for the series sweep Sunday at noon. The Bucs are now 20-24 on the season.
Chase Adkison led an offensive surge for the Pokes as he had a pair of hits, including a grand slam, and six RBIs, while Carson Benge drove in three runs. Marcus Brown was 3-for-5 with two RBIs, and Zach Ehrhard also had two hits and brought home two.
Bayden Root relieved starter Ben Abram and picked up the win to move to 6-1 as he worked two innings and allowed just one earned run.
The Cowboys used five pitchers on the night, including Nolan McLean, who had not pitched since March 24. The right-hander posted five strikeouts in three innings of work while allowing a single earned run.
Cameron Sisneros, who recorded a solo homer on Friday, continued his streak on Saturday and gave the Bucs an early lead when he led off the second inning with his ninth of the season.
But OSU answered in a big way in the bottom of the frame to take a lead it never surrendered. The Cowboys cranked out six runs on five hits, with Brown, David Mendham and Roc Riggio posting RBI singles and Benge delivering a two-RBI double.
The Cowboys wrangled up RBIs in three consecutive at-bats in the third, with Brown and Ehrhard collecting RBI singles and Benge tallying his second RBI double of the night.
ETSU trimmed OSU's lead to six in the fourth, bringing in a Noah Gent RBI single and an unearned run, but the Cowboys recouped those runs in the fifth, taking a 12-3 lead off Adkison's two-RBI single and a Tyler Wulfert RBI double.
Adkison provided the big blow to put the game away in the sixth when he rocketed a grand slam to left-center field to put OSU up 16-4. The blast was Adkison's fifth homer of the season.
