STILLWATER – No. 6 seeded Oklahoma State softball is one game closer to playing in their fourth-straight Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City with an 8-1 win over the Oregon Ducks in the opening round of the NCAA Super Regional in Stillwater.

With the win, the Cowgirls move to 45-14 overall on the season and will look to close out the series against the Ducks in game two on Friday, May 26, with first pitch at 5 p.m. CT on ESPN2. Kelly Maxwell will be in the circle for the Pokes.

It was an impressive win as the Ducks entered this game with a 30-8 road record this season. The Cowgirls have also outscored their opponents 28-3 in the last four games.

Lexi Kilfoyl got the start in the circle for the Cowgirls. The senior out of Land O’ Lakes, FL, finished the night on an impressive streak of retiring 17-straight batters from the second through the end of the seventh inning. She gave up just three hits, one earned run with three strikeouts in 24 batters faced.

Both Kiley Naomi and Morgyn Wynne recorded just one hit apiece, but they were super important hits as they were both home runs, scoring four RBIs.

The Ducks struck first in the top half of the second inning as Alyssa Daniell singled through the right side to score Humphreys from second, to go up 1-0 on the Cowgirls. The Cowgirls attempted to respond in the bottom of the inning, but Morgyn Wynne grounded into a double play to end the inning following a fly out into foul territory by Katelynn Carwile.

The Cowgirls were retired in order in the bottom of the third inning, but things got exciting for them in the bottom of the fourth as Kiley Naomi hit the team’s 50th home run on the season, her 12th of the season, to tie the game up at one. Micaela Wark recorded a one-out walk with the next at-bat, which was followed by a double by Carwile to advance Wark to third.

Wynne got some redemption from hitting into an early double play as she hit a ball up the middle back to the pitcher, who couldn’t make a play at home scoring Wark from third on the fielders’ choice to put the Cowgirls up 2-1. Freshman Tallen Edwards scored Carwile from third with a shot into left field over the shortstop’s glove, extended the Cowgirls’ lead up to 3-1 with just one out and runners on first and second.

Taylor Tuck was walked next up to load the bases with just one out, leading to an Oregon pitching change, Raegan Breedlove. The inning ended as Megan Bloodworth hit into the Cowgirls’ second double-play of the game, the 38th on the year.

Kilfoyl continued her strong run in the circle as she retired the Oregon side in the top half of the fifth. That was just before the Cowgirls extended their lead in the bottom half of the inning as Wark grounded out to second, but it was enough to score Rachel Becker from third and advanced Chyenne Factor to third.

Carwile was walked with the next at-bat to put runners on the corner, bringing Wynne up to hit with two outs. That’s when things turned very quickly for the Pokes as she launched a bomb out of the park in left field to put the Cowgirls on top, 7-1. Edwards grounded out to end the inning.

Factor extended the Cowgirls’ lead once again in the bottom of the sixth inning as she brought Bloodworth in with a two-out single, 8-1.

Rachel Becker played stellar defense at second in the top half of the seventh inning as she recorded an impressive diving stop to record the second out of the inning following by the final out of the game, giving Kilfoyl her 17th-straight batter retired and complete game performance.
