That probably makes the most sense!!! I know that with a conference covering three time zones you don't want one or more teams making a bunch of day long trips across the Country!!!

NO, NO, NO, NO to the silly "traditional", "predictable" pods.

Just no.

The conference needs something bold, not more of the same crap that led to the collapse of the B12 in the first place.

Those are cute, but they won't work long term.... they are short sighted and do not meet the long-term recruiting needs of the conference teams.... it's too lopsided denying access to Texas for most of the leagues, which was the death knell to the B12 North years ago.

Yeah but……..this all still seems temporary to me. I don't see this arrangement lasting 25 years or whatever. 8-10 years from now, if not sooner, the big wheel is going to start turning again.

My comments on RAs suggested pods:
1. Good for travel for every school except maybe Cougar High
2. Good for the fans that want to travel to away games.
3. Great for rivalries - existing, regional and going forward. This is very important to retain and even build media value.
4. Good for recruiting within your region
5. Might be viewed as negative for those schools wanting to recruit in Texas, though every school will still play in Texas.
6. Might make getting the best 2 teams in the CCG a little uneven at times, but you can't have everything with a 16 team conference.

You negative folks: Hang on, back up a step, and get a little perspective. The pods represent only 3 of the 9 conference games for each team per season; there would be 6 more rotating conference games to schedule. I don't think it would be hard to make a schedule which allowed every team to play a football game in Texas against one of the 4 Texas teams at least once a season.

since when did 9 conference games become the requirement? Most conferences only play 8.

If you group pod1 and pod2 that's 7 games there (same with pod 3 &4). Then you each play a team from the opposing group of pods (i.e. a pod1 team plays a pod 3 team, a pod 2 team plays a pod4 team, etc.)

This stuff is just not that hard.

Then you rotate the pods and who is in each pod.

Since the top 2 teams play in the conf champ game, it doesn't really matte who is in each pod annually.

We should avoid getting stuck playing the same core teams for the next decade with one or two others occasionally thrown in to make it a full 8 game conference slate.
