The Feud Continues, Gajewski Laid it Out in OKC at A Night with OSU

STILLWATER – The hug is now out of the question as based on Oklahoma State softball head coach Kenny Gajewski’s comment at A Night with OSU last week and first reported by The Daily O’Collegian student newspaper at Oklahoma State. I don’t think you will see Gajewski and former Cowgirls two-time All-American pitcher getting together unless it is in opposite dugouts during Bedlam.

A player that benefitted immensely and owes much of her wild success to her coach and coaches, teammates and the university, betrays those contributions to go play for the school's chief rival. Good on Kenny.

I guess Maxwell didn't give her future a single thought. She gave, received and developed many relationships and experiences over the past 5 years. 5 years from now I'd guess many of those relationships and memories will have been damaged, soured or destroyed by this move. Something I'm guessing she'll ultimately regret.

You all, and Kenny, have to understand: It's all different now. Those bitter rivalry hatreds we were all brought up with don't exist anymore. These athletes from these competing schools, even the ones considered "bitter rivals" by us, aren't. Many of them are close friends with each other. They know each other. Heck, they hang out together. They have a completely different view of these competitive rivalries. Gundy has elaborated about this before.

I'm not saying there wasn't some front-burner issue with Kelly Maxwell that may have given her a firm desire to "stick it" to KG and OSU, but for him to expect in general that "you don't burn a bridge by transferring to your rival" is just not a thing anymore. Times have changed.

What school would any athlete at OSU want to beat most?

I don't know how old you guys are, but the argument has some teeth. I mean Multiple OSU football players use to go on Spring Break with OU players. Even sharing a house, if I recall. Also, AAU, travel ball etc has had an effect on player loyalty, in my opinion.

I'd imagine some still hate the rivals. But can't really speak out publicly. With the portal and NIL it's become very stigmatized to criticize another player for leaving. "Go be great" makes me want to vomit, but you'll see many kids saying that when a teammate leaves.

forget just one moment that it is OU and put yourself in her cleets...

"If I have one more season, and I could go play anywhere, why would anybody (and I mean anybody) not transfer to the 3-time defending national champions to have a crack at winning it all?"

any other nonsense is simply childish.

Maybe it will work for her, maybe it won't, but nobody would pass up that opportunity... nobody, not for any reason.

Some people honor commitment. Some people respect their school, teammates and coaches. Some people finish what they start. Some people wish for a respected legacy. Some people wish to go "home" again.

Some losers don't. You?

I have talked to at least four current players in the last three months including two who went to NORMAN HIGH SCHOOL, you can guess who they are, and they told me they wish Trace Ford good luck in the future but that they would not HESITATE TO RUB IT IN HIS FACE AND TRASH TALK IF OSU WINS BEDLAM THIS YEAR IN FOOTBALL!!! THEY SAID HE IS NO LONGER A COWBOY OR PART OF THIS FOOTBALL FAMILY!!!

She was on some teams that will be honored in the future. I'm sure she won't care if she's not asked to join in those festivities if she can be part of OU honoring a national championship team. But I don't see a problem wtih being up front about not getting invited back for OSU events if you transfer to OU.

because it is childish for a coach...

Wish her well and state that she is no longer part of what we're trying to accomplish at OSU and leave it at that.

It's the class approach.

The class approach is to let people know what trade offs they will have to accept for the choices they make, not spring it on them later.

I'm certain that was done (tradeoffs / choices), but it's not class to rub it in her face after the fact through the Media of all places.

The coach should always take the higher ground. Always. It's what we expect from leadership.
