Homecoming 2023 Walk Around Seemed Bigger Than Ever
STILLWATER – Believe me I’m no judge of homecoming house decorations. I just know what I like when I see it and the picture of the Phi Gamma Delta-Chi Omega house decoration was awesome. I like the ones that are very realistic and this was with the cover of Time Magazine and Pistol Pete as the Man of the Year and then the Frank Eaton over the poker hand, a winning hand at that. The winners will all be announced at the football game on Saturday night as the Cowboys (5-2) host Cincinnati (2-5) at 7 p.m. inside Boone Pickens Stadium. I think it was kind of appropriate that a new Big 12 member came to Stillwater for America’s Greatest Homecoming. I saw a few Cincinnati fans walking around and said hello. They were amazed at the crowd and the magnitude of the decorations and the entire event.
There seemed to be a larger crowd than normal and Oklahoma State University Alumni Association President Ann Caine told me that a firm had been hired to come in on Friday night and create a Geo fence around Stillwater for the event. By pinging cell phones that firm can get a better estimate and just how big the crowd is on the streets around campus for the Walk Around.
I can tell you there were more food trucks present for the event than I can ever remember. Absolutely crazy how many trucks were present with everything from barbeque, wings, burgers, pizza, fried chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers. Greek food, Mexican food, cotton candy, freeze dried candies, funnel cakes, deep fried Oreos, and more.
The theme was awesome with the Year of the Cowboy and this being the 100-year anniversary of Frank “Pistol Pete” Eaton as the school’s mascot.
The Homecoming Parade will be held on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. but I can assure you the crowd for the parade will not match Friday night.
