Gunnar Gundy Goes into the Transfer Portal

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State quarterback and the son of Cowboys head coach Mike Gundy, Gunnar Gundy has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. Gundy is graduating with his undergraduate degree in December and will be ready to move immediately at the semester break to a new program. Gundy is 6-2, 205-pounds and has developed the run part of his game where is a legitimate 4.6 in the forty as far as speed.

Gundy was part of the three-man rotation at quarterback in the first three games of the season and you could say that Gundy was the guy that came off the bench and closed out the win over Central Arkansas. He completed 7-of-9 passes in that game as the third of the three quarterbacks. His 106-yards passing and 20-yards rushing all factored huge in the 27-13 win over the Bears.

On the season Gundy was 21-of-34 passing for 202-yards and a touchdown with no interceptions in three games. He rushed for 72-yards on 14 carries and a  2.8-yards per carry average. 

In his career at Oklahoma State he played in eight games over three seasons with 40-of-73 passing for 449-yards with four touchdowns and four interceptions. He ran for 110-net-yards on 34 carries and that came out to a 3.2-yards per carry average.

Gundy is the middle son of Mike and Kristen Gundy. He is an excellent student that obtained his degree at Oklahoma State in three years and that makes him a graduate in the transfer portal with unlimited movement. His fellow quarterback, starter this season Alan Bowman said he was an excellent teammate.

“Gunnar and Garret (Rangel) have both been supportive and that isn’t easy because only one guy gets to play,” Bowman said. “It’s a hard thing to go in the portal. Gunnar is a talented quarterback that can play and I hope he will find an opportunity that will work best for him. He deserves it.”

I know for a fact that his father and Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy was involved in the decision in being consulted and is totally supportive of Gunnar. He is very proud of Gunnar getting his degree in three-years at Oklahoma State.

He grew up in Stillwater virtually his entire life and was an All-State quarterback that led his team to deep playoff runs and a runner-up finish in Class 6A-II in the State Championship. He has always been a Stillwater guy and this will open up new opportunities in a new environment for Gundy. Oklahoma State fans should say thanks and wish him the best.
