2024 College Baseball Polls Starting to be Released - Oklahoma State No. 22 in One

STILLWATER – There’s still snow on the ground and there will be more coming. The cold shoulder of winter is far from over and classes at Oklahoma State for the spring semester just began a day lat on Wednesday. However, you can’t stop the anticipation of the upcoming baseball season and, as a result, the collge baseball polls as both Perfect Game and D1 Baseball have released their preseason 2024 baseball polls. These are more rankings than polls. D1 Baseball used four of their own people to come up with their poll. 

Craig Cozert authored the story on Perfect Game and Kendall Rogers, Aaron Fitt, Mike Rooney, and Joe Healy were the four that put together the D1 Baseball rankings. 

You can see there are four Big 12 teams in each of the preseason Top 25 rankings with TCU projected the highest-ranked and then Texas and Kansas State making both polls. Oklahoma State in Perfect Game and Texas Tech in the D1 Baseball rankings.

Carson Benge gets it done on the mound and at the plate.

I was surprised that the only returning Cowboys player to make the first, second, or third-team preseason All-American projections by Perfect Game was Carson Benge and Benge; who hit .345 with 17 doubles, 7 home runs, and 43 RBI; made it as a position player and as a pitcher. 

I can’t believe that Nolan Schubart wasn’t on the team. He made All-American and Freshman All-American teams last season and was so fun to watch. He is so athletic and explosive. He had 17 home runs and 20 doubles while also walking 43 times. He had 74 RBI to lead the Cowboys. He was a “mist watch” at the plate because he was capable of tape-measure home runs to all fields.

Anxious to see Aidan Meola back on the diamond. 

Aidan Meola, Zach Ehrhad, Jaxson Crull, Ian Dougherty, Derek Smith, Collin Brueggemann, Tyler Wulfert, Beau Sylvester are all returning players that will help. The big question is who forms the middle of the infield and transfer Lane Forsythe figures to be at least part of that answer. 

The pitching is the question and likely the answer on the mound with who starts, who relieves, and who closes will go a long way to determining just how far and how high Cowboys baseball will go this season. 

The next few weeks and decisions made as a result will be interesting to see on the diamond when the season begins on Feb. 16 at Sam Houston State in Huntsville, Texas for the opening three-game series.
