Plott Wrestled with the Eye of the Pete as No. 3 OSU Takes Care of Arizona State 28-9
STILLWATER – The Cowboys got the win started early, but saved some of the big points for late as No. -ranked 184 pound Dustin Plott continued to be on fire. Plott was beaten last Friday for just the second time this season when top-ranked Parker Keckeisen of Northern Iowa decisioned him 12-6. The next night Plott was a bizz saw in whipping No. 10 Will Feldkamp of Iowa State with a 17-3 major decision. Tonight against Max Wilner of Arizona State Plott scored a quick takedown and followed with a two-point near fall before getting another takedown and got a chicken wing
and was able to flip Wilner over on his shoulders with his legs up in the air. It didn’t matter as the shoulders touched and the mat was slapped for a fall at 2:35 of the first period. The six points put Oklahoma State way out of reach and almost to the final score of 28-9 over the Sun Devils.
The Cowboys are now 11-0 on the season and still 5-0 in the Big 12 Conference. Next year Arizona State will be a conference foe. Oklahoma State heads to Columbia, Mo. on Sunday for a 1 p.m. meeting with No. 5 Missouri.
Oklahoma State’s No.16 197-pound Luke Surber will feel better about his progress. Surber, dealing with a right knee injury, was back on the mat on Friday after Plott’s fall, Surber dominated Jacob Mesisner for a 17-4 major decision. It was a good comeback match for Surber and he will hopefully come out of it okay and be ready to go at Mizzou and face No. 8 Rocky Elam.
The dual with Arizona State ended with Greco specialist and Sun Devil heavyweight Cohlton Schultz winning in sudden victory overtime over the Cowboys No. 9 Konner Doucet 4-1. Doucet is now 14-4 on the season.
As mentioned, Oklahoma State got the night started well as 125 pounder Troy Spratley scored early and closed out late for a 13-5 major decision over No. 11 Richard Figueroa. That win should bump up Spratley in the individual rankings where he was No. 20.
No. 3 Daton Fix went to 9-0 on the season but it wasn’t easy as he survived a late reversal by No. 26 Julian Chlebove and got a takedown to win 5-3. That was a close call for Fix.
Another major decision for Oklahoma State at 141 pounds as No, 8 Tagen Jamison seemed to get his mojo and his offense back last Saturday in a sudden victory win against Iowa State. Jamison had plenty of offense against Cody Foote for a 16-5 major decision. Oklahoma State led 11-0 on the team score.
Arizona State got on the board at 149 pounds when No, 4 Kyle Parco scored an 8-5 decision over unranked Jordan Williams.
The next weight and another No. 4 wrestler for the Sun Devils in Jacori Teemer against the Cowboys No. 17 Teague Travis. Travis wrestled well but lost a 7-3 decision to Teemer. Oklahoma State led at this point 11-6.
The bleeding and the losses stopped there as No. 3-ranked Cowboy Izzak Olejnik won a 5-0 decision over ASU’s unranked Chance McLane.
At 174 pounds freshman Braden Thompson piled the points on for an 11-2 major decision over Carl Valencia.
