Oklahoma State Softball beats UC Riverside, 11-3
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – A six-hit, five-run third inning propelled the No. 9 Oklahoma State softball team to an 11-3 victory over UC Riverside at Amy S. Harrison Field Saturday.
With the win, the Cowgirls improved to 4-0. UC Riverside fell to 0-1.
Starting pitcher Ivy Rosenberry struck out three and allowed no hits in two innings of work. Kyra Aycock pitched three innings and Lexi Kilfoyl struck out two of the three batters she faced in the sixth to close out the victory.
Caroline Wang got the Cowgirls started in the first inning with a three-run home run and following an RBI double from Tallen Edwards in the second, OSU held a 4-0 lead.
The third inning is where OSU put the game out of reach, with Haidyn Sokoloski, Rosie Davis and Megan Bloodworth hitting an RBI single, an RBI double and an RBI triple in three consecutive at-bats. The next batter, Edwards, added her second RBI double of the contest to stake the Cowgirls to a 9-0 advantage.
UCR scored twice in the bottom of the third to stay out of run-rule territory on its home field, but an RBI single from Jilyen Poullard in the fifth inning and an RBI single from Karli Godwin in the sixth was more than the Highlanders could overcome.
OSU returns to action tomorrow against No. 10 UCLA in Los Angeles at 3 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
