STILLWATER – There will be a further and longer story coming from Oklahoma State University athletics media relations from Los Angeles on the site of the nationally televised game on ESPN, but thanks to head coach Kenny Gajewski and his Cowgirls for getting their business on Super Bowl Sunday taken care of before even the pregame ceremonies were underway a few hours away in Las Vegas as they run ruled No. 8 preseason and prestigious UCLA on their dimaond 9-1. The Cowgirls stayed unbeaten at 5-0 and finished the weekend in California with four run-rule wins and scoring a total of 39 runs while allowing only five runs.

Oklahoma State scored a run in the top of the first on an RBI single by the hot hitting Caroline Wang  to the wall in rightfield.

Shortstop Megan Bloodworth extended the lead in the top of the second with a two-run homer just to the right of centerfield. It was Bloodworth’s first home run of the season, but it was just the first of four on the day for the Cowgirls.

The big inning was in the top of the fifth as Oklahoma State extended the lead into run-rule possibility as Katie Lott hit a three-run homer to leftfield. Rosie Davis added a solo home run in the inning. Leadoff hitter Tallen Edwards hit her first home run of the season to go along with a bunch of doubles from the opening weekend. In all, the Cowgirls tallied six runs in the top of the fifth and then Lexi Kilfoyl polished off her outing by getting the Bruins in one-two-three fashion including a strike out to finish the game.

Starting pitcher Ivy Rosenberry pitched two innings, allowing two hits and striking out one before Kilfoyl entered in the third. Kilfoyl pitched three innings, striking out three Bruins and surrendering one hit.

The Cowgilrs come home before heading back out on the road to the preseason tournament event of the year every season in college softball, the Clearwater Beach Invitational. They will open up with Georgia on Friday before playing Wisconsin, LSU, Northwestern, and Georgia Tech before heading over to Deland and Tampa to play in the South Florida Invitational.
