The Freshmen are Changing Oklahoma State Basketball, Is it Too Little, Too Late?

It was the final five minutes on Wednesday night in Cincinnati and what looked like a tired Oklahoma State team with three freshmen on the floor in 6-11 Brandon Garrison, gutty and tough guard Jamyron Keller, and Eric Dailey Jr. trying to finish a win. A lead that the Cowboys had held most of the first half had evaporated around the midway mark of the second half, but here in the final minutes you had Keller mixinf up drives inside with a three-pointer to key the offense.

Agree completely. The team is playing, the coaches are coaching, and the future has extreme potential. The only thing left is to support with your butts in seats (bringing the rowdy back to GIA) will help with keeping these players here as much as anything. Plus, support the team through NIL. There's a chance to bring it back and we the fans and students need to play our part.

Bleh.... it was freaking Cincinatti, for gosh sakes.

I am honestly so torn over this issue.... I want the best for the kids, but not if it means we have to have Boynton around for even one more practice.

Boynton deserves a year to turn this around properly IMO. His recruiting is very good, his coaching resume win record now includes about 25 top twenty teams which speaks for itself, his freshman class is growing up. Some fan support/NIL may likely be the final answer to restoring OSU's basketball program.

I just can't stand this level of excuse making.

The guy has failed miserably for 7 years. We're on the verge of finishing dead last, which hasn't been done since Hansen. He might get lucky and avoid last, but that's some consolation.

His record against ranked teams is horrible.

We have lost 5-8 players every single year, and much of that was pre-NIL.

I'm not against the NIL concept, but I am against that being the only thing that saves his job. No other coach had that privilege to buy his players to keep their jobs.

There has not been even one positive development since he's been here.

I can go back and look up just how many players that's he has failed to retain every season, and it not pretty.

His results are so much worse than Ford's and fans could not wait to show him the door. Boynton has nothing over Ford, nothing. I just cannot understand why anybody would want to keep him around any longer.

Ford had 22 Top 25 wins through 7 seasons, and beat KU practically annually.

22-45 through 7 seasons - almost identical to Boynton.

but Ford got dumped on and Boynton gets unwarranted praise.

there should not be a double standard

In my opinion Boynton has recruited better than Ford. We never seemed to add height to team under Ford and lacked a complete team. Boynton was hit with the ridiculous investigation and penalty that was extremely unfair to OSU. And that has slowed both the team's and Boynton's development IMO. But again Rodeo, just my thoughts. Yours are obviously different and yours may win out. I don't contribute enough $ to move anything anymore at this old age!

I'm with you brother... too old to care that much.

Ford at least got his 3 key guys to come back for one more year (Smart, Nash, Brown), Boynton can't keep anybody around, so recruiting means nothing.

Ford did have trouble getting "quality" big guys, but we did have IMac in there for a while. Soloman was a project but he was pretty good by the time he was a senior. I'm not going to look them all up.

Conversely, Boynton cannot get a decent PG in to save his life. Small is the best one that we've had, IMO (aside from Cunningham who was more of a point forward). Boynton has never had a "complete team"... (maybe this year - year 7)

I didn't like Ford's offensive philosophy, but I thought he deserved more time based on his results. He took over when there was a revolt among the fans over the way Sean was fired, many stopped attending and contributing, including myself. Then the Thunder move to OKC and many fans bought PRO tickets for the first time, but Ford got blamed for the waning attendance. Then it was Ford makes too much money for the results he's produced.

Boynton has had issues to work around too, no doubt, but he is paid even more and has produced even less, yet there is no out outcry, there is no uproar.

If Ford was paid too much for his decent results (5 tournament appearances in 8 years), then Boynton should have been canned years ago by making even more money and only making the tournament 1 time in 7 years.

Actually I care a lot, too much probably about OSU sports. It's just that at 74, I'm living off fixed income, savings and only a bit of part time work income......and NIL isn't getting my part time income! I don't even buy season basketball tickets anymore as the night driving is too much and wife won't stay up to midnight anymore to go to BB. Luckily, she will for football!
