Cowgirls Explode with Huge 6th Inning to Beat UCF 10-4

STILLWATER – In the top of the fifth inning the visiting Central Florida Knights came through with a pair of two-run home runs to go from four runs down to being in the mix with the No. 7 Oklahoma State Cowgirls. Stormy Kotzelnick took OSU starter Kyra Aycock deep and then Jasmine Williams followed that up.

The response from Kenny Gajewski and his new pitching coach in Carrie Eberle was to get the veteran Ivy Rosenberry, who has been extra stingy to opponents lately into the game. Rosenberry did the job and held UCF scoreless the rest of the way.

Now, at the plate the Cowgirls cranked it up in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the game away. It was a whopping six-run sixth. With runners at second and third, Katie Lott singled to left field and that scored the run to take the lead at 5-4.

After a sac fly by Megan Bloodworth to make it 6-4, then Tallen Edwards got her single to right field that allowed the Cowgirls to work on their base running and show off how they can get safely to every base and push the lead to 9-4. It was a clutch inning of softball offense.

The Cowgirls had nine hits with third baseman Tallen Edwards leading the way going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Catcher Caroline Wang had a home run and she went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.

Rosenberry got the win to go to 6-1 on the season. Angelina DeVoe in relief for UCF got the loss and went to 1-1.

Oklahoma State is 23-3 on the season and 4-1 in Big 12 play. Central Florida drops to 14-10 and 2-3 in the Big 12. The two teams will play the final game of the three-game Big 12 series at noon on Sunday inside Cowgirls Stadium.
