Oklahoma State Baseball Lands Commitment From Former OU Infielder

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State baseball just landed a commitment from Seminole State infielder, Caden Powell.

Powell, who’s in his second year of college, his first with the Trojans, started his career at Oklahoma before he entered the transfer portal following his freshman season.

Originally out of Clinton, OK, Powell began his career with the Sooners where he played in 16 games last season, starting in 11. Seven of those starts came as a designated hitter and four at first base. 

In those 16 games with the Sooners, Powell hit .257 with a .371 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .297, which included nine hits, four doubles and three RBIs. He also had 14 strikeouts and two walks.

Through 34 games this season for the Trojans, Powell is leading the team in batting average with .511, which includes 68 hits, 11 doubles, six triples and 14 home runs, scoring 44 runs and 65 RBIs. He also has just 17 strikeouts in a team-high 133 at-bats, 14 walks and seven stole bases. He’s leading the team in slugging with 1.045, as well as on-base percentage at .564.

The progress Powell has made during his sophomore season is incredible. Playing baseball at the collegiate level certainly takes talent, but as we all know, baseball is just as much a mental game as it is physical and sometimes all it takes to get turned back in the right direction is a change of scenery. And for Powell, the turnaround from his one season at OU to this year at Seminole State has been incredible.
