Cowgirls Split with Buffalo and Louisiana Dropping First Loss This Season

Baton Rouge, La. - Oklahoma State softball moved to 12-1 on the season after splitting its doubleheader with Buffalo and No. 9 Louisiana in Baton Rouge, bringing the longest win streak in the nation to an end.

The Cowgirls took game one against Buffalo 6-3 before falling to No. 9 Louisiana 7-1 in the second game. 

In game one of the doubleheader, OSU put runs on the board early, scoring two in the top of the first. The Cowgirls then tacked on runs in each of the following three innings to hold the Bulls at bay.

Head coach Kenny Gajewski tested his pitching depth some against Buffalo. Freshman Savannah Evans got the start in the circle and Mattison Boyd picked up her second win of the season. Boyd pitched four innings, allowing no hits or runs and striking out three. 

Freshman Katelynn Carwile recorded her first career save.

Chelsea Alexander, Alysen Febrey, and Jordan Doggett all racked up two hits in the game. Febrey led the way for the offense in game one, with a double and two RBI. However, Febrey would go hitless for the first time this season in the second game loss to Louisiana. That ended a personal 17-game hitting streak dating back to last season.

In game two, Logan Simunek got the start in the circle for OSU. Louisiana got off to a hot start offensively, scoring five runs in the first two innings and adding two more late in the game.

Karli Petty drove in the only run for OSU in the seventh inning with a double to right field.

Alexander, Chyenne Factor, Hayley Busby, and Avery Hobson also collected hits in the loss.

The Cowgirls will be back in action tomorrow at 11 a.m. CT at Louisiana to take on the No. 9 Ragin' Cajuns. Expect to see either left-hander Kelly Maxwell or ace Carrie Eberle in the circle for the Cowgirls.
