Former Oklahoma State Standout Daniel Cormier Inducted into Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame
STILLWATER – Yet another Hall of Fame induction for former Oklahoma State and Olympic wrestler Daniel Cormier as he was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
This marks the fourth Hall of Fame for Cormier as he’s also a member of the UFC Hall of Fame, the Louisiana High School Sports Hall of Fame and the National Junior College Athletic Association Hall of Fame. Cormier goes into this year’s Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame with NFL and New Orleans Saints great, Drew Brees.
Cormier wrestled in Stillwater for the Pokes in 2000 and 2001, posting a 52-10 overall record, which included an impressive 36 bonus-point wins. He qualified for the NCAAs in each of his two seasons, posting a second-place finish at 184 pounds, earning All-America honors in 2001. He also finished second at the Big 12 championships in each of his two years.
Prior to his time in Stillwater, Cormier won two NJCAA national titles at 197 pounds for Colby Community College.
Cormier represented the United States every year from 2003 and 2008 following his career in Stillwater, winning gold medals at the 2002 Pan American Championships in Maracaibo and at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo. He capped his freestyle career with a bronze medal at the 2007 World Championships in Baku.
Cormier then worked his way through the MMA world, ultimately becoming a world champion of the UFC at both light heavyweight and heavyweight, becoming the first fighter to both win and defend titles at each weight.
He finished his UFC career with a 22-3 overall record with one no-contest, putting him in the top-10 in wins in both the light heavyweight (third) and heavyweight (tenth).
