It's Out! Dave Campbell's Texas Football and Adam Schobel is the 3A Coverboy
STILLWATER – Texas Football Magazine is out, the 65th edition of the popular publication that covers high school and college football from border to border and from the Gulf of Mexico to the Red River. We know the recruiting editor for Texas Football as it is Oklahoma native Greg Powers. I worked with Greg way back when we were both at Scout.com and then we went to 247Sports together. Greg left before I did, a tragic mistake of the higher ups that had no clue how good Greg was at evaluating talent and accurately projecting it. It’s no surprise that Dave Campbell;s Texas Football hired him. This has been a banner year for Oklahoma State in recruiting Texas. The Cowboys class for 2025 already has 17 commitments and 12 are from Texas. They have two commitments from Oklahoma, and one each from Florida, Kansas, and Utah. One of the Texas pledges is 2023 signee Isaiah Kema, a standout offensive lineman from Wolfforth (Frenship), Texas that is finishing up his two-year religious mission for the Chrich of Latter Day Saints.
Two of the other commitments from Texas are four-star rated players and Greg Powers and Texas Football agree with that as Columbus, Texas quarterback Adam Schobel is the magazine’s 3A Coverboy to lead off the section on Class 3A. Michael Riles is defensive end and edge rusher from Texas Football’s No. 10 preseason pick in Class 5A Port Arthur (Memorial), Texas.
Riles is on the Class 5A Preseason All-State team. In their story they call the 6-4, 240 pound Riles “one of the state’s top edge rushers.” Riles is a second-team defensive end on their Whataburger Preseason Super Team and he is ranked as a Top 10 Defensive Linemen in Texas.
Schobel is on Texas Football Magazine’’s Whataburger Preseason Super Team as the third-team quarterback. The 6-5, 195 pound strong-armed prospect is listed as a Top 10 Quarterback in Texas, the Class 3A Preseason All-State quarterback, and is, as previously mentioned, the 3A Coverboy. In the story they say Adam has plans before he goes to Stillwater.
“I’ve built great relationships with these guys (teammates) on and off the field, and it just makes it more special when a win comes our way,” Schobel told Mallory Hartley, who wrote the story. “I’m excited for our senior season and to play with my friends one last time.”
Texas Football has the Columbus Cardinals as the No.2 team in Class 3A Division I behind Malakoff and ahead of typical powers like Franklin, Edna, and Bushland.
Waco Midway linebacker Donovan Jones is featured prominently in the District 12-6A Preview. They list Jones as the Preseason Defensive MVP and they pick the Midway Panthers to finish third in a very tough district with Killeen Harker Heights and Killeen Shoemaker ahead of Midway.
The 6-1, 210 pound Jones had two interceptions last season, both returned for touchdowns. They call the Midway defense a force for opposing offenses to deal with.
Jones is a Texas Top 300 player and listed with the Best of the Rest at linebacker.
They also list the top prospect at Killeen Shoemaker as tight end Isaiah Butler-Tanner at 6-6, 255 pounds. Butler-Tanner is listed as a Texas Top 300 player and is listed with the Best of the Rest among a total of 15 tight ends on the list.
Running back D.J. Dugar it seems like they lost him or wrote the preview on Pflugerville (Weiss) early before his transfer, but there is Dugar’s name as one of the Top 10 Running Backs and one of the Texas Top 300 players.
The wide receivers committed to Oklahoma State all three with Royal Capell of Cibolo (Steele), Jayden Perez of San Antonio (Johnson), and Kameron Powell of McKInney (North) all listed among the Best of the Rest (total of 62) at wide receiver and all are Texas Top 300 players.
Recent safety commit Ayden Webb of Dallas (Lake Highlands) is a Texas Top 300 player. McKInney defensive lineman Jordan Covington is also listed among the Texas Top 300 as one of the top 38 defensive linemen,
U.S. Army All-American Jaylon Beckley of Addison (Trinity Christian) is one of the Top 40 offensive linemen and one of the Texas Top 300 players.
Oklahoma State recruits looking to make commitments soon like safety Coleman Patmon of Del Valle (announcing June 26) and cornerback Kobi Foreman of Richardson (Berkner) (announcing July 4) are both Texas Top 300 players. Jayden Sanders of Kilgore was a Whataburger Preseason Super Team third-team defensive back and listed as a Top 10 Athlete in the Texas Top 300.
