One of the Last Drafted is One of the First to Sign: Cowboy MLB Draft Signing Tracker

STILLWATER – One of the last players drafted in the MLB Draft last week was one of the first to ink his contract and get on his way into professional baseball. Oklahoma State pitcher and Penn State transfer Tommy Molsky was picked in the round 12 with the pick No. 347 by the Kansas City Royals and Molsky was ready. He inked a deal believed to be worth the $150,000 bonus he was slotted for. The Royals have done a great job signing 16 of their draft choice so far, but that does not include their top pick and sixth pick overall in Florida first baseman Jac Caglionone, who Cowboys fans saw in the NCAA Stillwater Regional. 

None of the other first round or compensatory round picks from Oklahoma State or signed with the Cowboys most recent recruiting class  have signed. However, they are all expected to sign.

 Oklahoma State also lost third round pick Brian Holiday to the St. Louis Cardinals and the Cards caught a break as Holiday is reported to have signed for $800.000 bonus when he was slotted for $964,500.  Holiday is a great pick-up as a talented, gritty, and very competitive pitcher as well exactly the kind of character and personality that you want in your organization and in the clubhouse. 

Cowboys center fielder Zach Ehrhard was selected by the Boston Red Sox with the 115 pick in the fourth round. It's the second time the Red Sox have picked Ehrhard, who as of Tuesday (July 23) had not signed. He could come back but I would guess he would sign.

Sixth round selection with pick 200 Janzen Keisel, a transfer from BYU that pitched a lot this season for the Cowboys signed with the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday (July 22). He signed for $272,500 after being picked in a place slotted for $326,000. The Rays were shrewd negotiators. 

The Cowboys it appears caught a break as they were present in Wisconsin last week to sell Noah Wech, a right-handed pitcher from Manitowoc, Wisc. and Lincoln High School to stick with the Cowboys. His slot bonus was not valued as much as a college scholarship, but the lure was the team that drafted him, the hometown Milwaukee Brewers with the 575th pick in the 19th round. 

Everything else for now is wait and see. Here is the status of the other three Cowboys and the one 2024 signee that were drafted last week.

I truly believe that Oklahoma State has a very good shot at keeping Ryan Ure on the roster. On Thursday, July 25, it was announced Jones had signed his contract with the Washington Nationals.
