Oklahoma State to Host Concert Featuring Cross Canadian Ragweed Benefiting OSU NIL

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State and red dirt music fans rejoice because all your favorite groups will be playing Boone Pickens Stadium.

According to Josh Crutchmer of Rolling Stone magazine reports a daylong concert on April 12 headlined by Cross Canadian Ragweed. The Turnpike Troubadours will co-headline the show, with Jason Boland and the Stragglers, the Great Divide and Stoney LaRue also playing.

This marks the first concert in Boone Pickens Stadium since 2006 when Alan Jackson played Orange Peel that fall.

Ticket pre-sales start at 10 a.m. CT on October 7. General public tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. CT October 11 and can be purchased at www.okstate.com/concert. Fans can sign up to get a pre-sale password at www.theboysfromoklahoma.com from October 1-5.

“Stillwater represents a beginning — for me, personally, and for the band,” says Ragweed co-founder and drummer Randy Ragsdale. “It’s like that for most people that go there. That’s where they start their life. It’s one of the first places we got going, and I think it’s also bigger than just our band. The whole damn movement got going there. I don’t want to sound cheesy, but it’s kind of like the motherland. I cannot think of a better place to get it going again, to bury the hatchet, to try to do this the right way, and just start over.”

Pokes Report has learned it will benefit NIL at Oklahoma State, with the athletic department tasked with selling suites and the club level, with the promotion company selling seats in the bowl and on the field. The capacity of the concert will be capped at 43,000.

“We are excited to bring the first-ever concert to Boone Pickens Stadium this spring and look forward to hosting this fantastic Oklahoma-based lineup in the home of the Cowboys,” OSU Athletic Director Chad Weiberg said. “We are grateful to the team at DMG for helping make this happen. This show will benefit OSU’s NIL efforts but will also be a great event for our student-athletes, student body, alumni, fans and the community of Stillwater.” 

This marks the reunion of Cross Canadian Ragweed, which formed in Stillwater back in 1994 and becoming the face of the red dirt scene before breaking up in 2010. Easily one of the most successful red dirt groups, they teased their return in late September. 

Turnpike Troubadours are out of Talequah, but made it big in Stillwater playing the bars on The Strip before going national.

Jason Boland and the Stragglers also got their start in Stillwater as Boland was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity at Oklahoma State. LaRue moved to Stillwater in the early 2000s to play the bars, becoming friends with both Boland and Cody Canada on Cross Canadian Ragweed.

The Great Divide formed in Stillwater back in the early 90s and helped influence most red dirt bands, including Cross Canadian Ragweed.
