Campbell with Another Stellar Pitching Performance to Beat ORU

TULSA, Okla. – Behind a dominant pitching performance led by Justin Campbell, Oklahoma State defeated Oral Roberts, 5-0, Tuesday night at J.L. Johnson Stadium. With the win, the ninth-ranked Cowboys improved to 10-0-1 on the season and snapped a nine game losing streak at Johnson Stadium dating back to 1995.

Campbell carved up the Golden Eagles (4-8), racking up a career-high 14 strikeouts in seven scoreless innings. The 14 strikeouts were just two shy of the OSU single-game record held by Derek Brandow.

The Pokes used four pitchers in the contest, with that group combining to strike out 19 ORU batters while issuing only one walk.

The 19 strikeouts are one shy of the OSU and Big 12 Conference record for strikeouts in a nine-inning game; the Cowboys punched out 20 against Alabama A&M on March 23, 2010. The program record for strikeouts in a game is 21, which came in a 15-inning contest against Texas in 2011.

Campbell is now 2-0 and has allowed only one run in three starts this season, and he has posted 26 strikeouts in 13 innings over his last two outings.

OSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening inning despite collecting just one hit. The Cowboys' first run came when Max Hewitt drew a two-out, bases loaded walk on a 10-pitch at-bat, and an ORU error then gave the Pokes their second run.

The Cowboys extended their lead in the fourth when Matt Golda delivered an RBI single with the bases loaded to make the score 3-0.

OSU added its final runs in the eighth, taking advantage of an ORU pitching staff that walked 10 Cowboys and a defense that committed four errors in the game. Jake Thompson picked up an RBI on a walk, while Christian Encarnacion-Strand drove in a run on a fielder's choice.

The Cowboys return to action Friday when they open a three-game series against No. 2 Vanderbilt at O'Brate Stadium. First pitch for the opener is scheduled for 6 p.m.

WOW

That's probably around 50% of batters faced.

This kid is absolutely rolling. Let's hope the staff can keep this type of performance up over the course of the season. It appears they've got great depth, so guys wearing out quickly down the stretch shouldn't be an issue.

I was looking for TV coverage of this weekend's HUGE series with #3 Vandy..... and there is NONE... ZERO. NADA.

They're putting this marquee matchup of two great Baseball teams, in a new ball park on the Internet only.

What a freaking shame. I was going to have my colleague tune in, because he's a Fullerton grad, and his kid is a HS Junior playing travel ball and looking for collegiate opportunities.

A great showcase for the sport and our team, and we get NOTHING.

What a shame....
