Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon Named Co-Grand Marshals for Homecoming
STILLWATER – Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon made headlines as one of the most prolific passing combinations in Oklahoma State, Big 12, and college football history. It all started on a Thursday night with starting quarterback Zac Robinson injured and Weeden came in to relive at quarterback with the Pokes down to Colorado. The game winner was a deep ball from Weeden to Blackmon and the combination was born. That combination will now ride in a convertible in the 2024 Oklahoma State Homecoming Parade and serve as co-Grand Marshals of the America’s Greatest Homecoming.
By the time they were done in their college careers, Weeden had passed for 9,260-yards and 75 touchdowns with only 27 interceptions. He completed 69.5 percent of this pass attempts. You can thank Blackmon for a lot of those as he finished with 253 receptions for 3,564-yards and 40 touchdowns, almost all of those from Weeden. Blackmon averaged 14.1-yards a catch.
The next April, Blackmon was drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars and Weeden went a few selections later to the Cleveland Browns. The duo were both first-round NFL picks.
It was after their first full season playing together in 2010 that they held a joint news conference after the Alamo Bowl win over Arizona and announced they were both coming back for the 2011 season that wound up being a BIg 12 Championship season and Oklahoma State finished second and third in the end-of-season polls.
“There were few things more thrilling to watch in Boone Pickens Stadium than a ‘Weeden-to-Blackmon’ connection,” said Dr. Ann Caine, OSU Alumni Association president. “We’re thrilled to have Brandon and Justin return for America’s Greatest Homecoming as two of our all-time greats celebrating OSU’s greatest tradition.”
The OSU Alumni Association announced the selection of the former OSU quarterback and wide receiver today along with the kickoff time of 6 p.m. Oklahoma State will host Arizona State for Homecoming 2024. Both Weeden and Blackmon are members of Oklahoma State University Athletics’ Hall of Honor and were a part of Cowboy football’s thrilling 2011 season that included capturing the Big 12 Conference title and a win over No. 4 Stanford in the Fiesta Bowl.
“It’s awesome to see Justin back,” Cowboys coach Mike Gundy said. “He was a fantastic player. One of the most talented that I ever coached.”
“Stillwater is a place that always felt like home. I love the environment and the atmosphere, the people are fantastic,” Weeden said. “We have the greatest Homecoming in the country, and I’m excited to be a part of something very special.”
