Cowboys and Taylor Come Home for Christmas to Serve as Scrooge for Va.Tech
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State returns home following a dominating 35-3 Bedlam win last Friday in Norman over Big 12 (wrestling) rival Oklahoma. Really not much of a rivalry as Oklahoma State has dominated that series 152-to-27 with 10 ties when those used to be a thing. It was Cowboys coach David Taylor’s first Bedlam and I’m not sure he got the full effect.
“It was good, we moved forward, scored points,” Taylor said adding that he notied there were more Oklahoma State fans there than Oklahoma. “That was good for our guys and you could hear the orange power chant. That fired our guys up.”
Oklahoma State will need to fired up on Thursday night (Dec. 19) as here comes No. 7 Virginia Tech. The Hokies are 3-0 with wins over Chattanooga 37-6, No. 8 Missouri 23-10, and No. 17 Rutgers 26-11. Virginia Tech has four wrestlers ranked in the top 10 and all wrestlers scheduled to compete are ranked by Intermat. At 149 pounds the Cowboys No. 14 Carter Young gets a huge test with No. 1 Caleb Henson.
“Another good test for the guys,” Taylor said with his usual calm and measured tone. “It’s here at home. It is a good dual. We need fan support and hopefully everyone is coming. It would be a good Christmas gift for your kids to buy tickets for the match. I’m looking forward to it.”

One of the more interesting stories on this Cowboy wrestling team is the emergence of Caleb Fish. The transfer from Michigan State has been one of the top wrestlers in the country at his weight. That was 165 pounds. He came in with three transfers in Cameron Amine (165) and Deam Hamiti Jr., who had also wrestled 165 at Wisconsin. Hamiti Jr. moved up to 174. Amine coming from Michigan was at 165 and Fish was going to redshirt. Then Teague Travis at 157 was injured and Fish was pressed into duty for the Cliff Keen Las Vegas tournament. he finished third winning seven of eight matches.
“It was a quick pull, two days, but I handled it easily,” Fish said as he also beat OU’s Carter Schubert 6-0. “Communication was big, we all knew where we were going to go. I don’t like sitting and watching very much, so it was nard to pull (the weight).”
Fish is now ranked No. 12 at his new weight and he will draw No.14 Rafael Hipolito (10-2) of Virginia Tech on Thursday night.
