STILLWATER – Oklahoma State proved they still deserved to be ranked as they knocked off No. 9 TCU, 60-59, giving the Cowgirls their first win over a top 10 opponent since December 2017.

With the win, the Cowgirls moved to 16-3 overall on the season and 6-2 in Big 12 play and handing TCU their first conference loss of the season.

Sophomore Stailee Heard led the way in scoring with 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor, 2-of-3 from 3-point range and led the team with six rebounds.

Jadyn Wooten finished with 14 points and Anna Gret Asi with 10.

The Cowgirls trailed the Horned Frogs by 15 points at halftime, then cut their deficit to eight heading into the final quarter.

That’s when the Cowgirls turned up the pressure.

They outscored TCU 20-11 in the fourth quarter, including holding them to no field goals in the final three minutes of the game.

Despite outscoring TCU in the final frame, the game nearly came down to missed free throws.

Heard cut the game to two points, 55-53, following an and-one with 1:53 left in the game. Wooten then tied the game up following an offensive foul on the other end by Hailey Van Lith. That’s when Heard drilled a fastbreak 3-pointer to give the Pokes their first lead since 2-0 in the first quarter.

Asi hit two free throws with twenty seconds left in the game to put the Cowgirls up by five, but a foul on Wooten, two missed free throws by Tenin Magassa, followed by a foul on Magassa on a three attempt by Madison Conner made it a one-point game with just eight seconds left.

Asi missed two free throws a second later following a quick foul on the Horned Frogs, leading to a wide-open jumper by Van Lith, who sent it in just a bit too hard and off the rim.

The Cowgirls were outrebounded 46-34, but outshot the Horned Frogs 42% to 33% from the field and forced 12 turnovers to just five, leading to 16 points for the Pokes.

The Cowgirls are back in action this coming Saturday as they’ll face Texas Tech on the road in Lubbock, TX. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
