Oklahoma State Picked by Big 12 Coaches to Win League and Schubart Picked as POY

IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State was picked as the preseason favorite in a vote by the league's head coaches in the 2025 Big 12 Baseball Preseason Poll. The ranking is the highest in program history, surpassing the Cowboy's previous high of second, which they had been slotted seven times in the history of the Conference poll. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own team.

The Cowboys received nine first-place votes and are coming off a season that saw OSU win the 2024 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship and host the NCAA Stillwater Regional. In its first season in the Conference, Arizona tallied four first-place votes to slot second after competing in the NCAA Tucson Regional last season followed by third-place TCU, who grabbed the final first-place vote.

West Virginia, fresh off its first appearance in the NCAA Super Regionals, came in at the fourth spot followed by Texas Tech. Arizona State comes in at sixth in its first season in the league, with UCF closely behind after making its first NCAA Regional appearance since 2017. Kansas State was voted eighth after advancing to the NCAA Super Regionals in 2024.

Kansas is ninth and Cincinnati is 10th followed by Houston at 11th, Utah at 12th, Baylor at 13th and BYU at 14th.

Nolan Schubart is the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year

Oklahoma State's Nolan Schubart was named the Preseason Player of the Year to highlight the 2025 Big 12 Preseason Baseball Awards while Kansas' Dominic Voegele was tabbed the Preseason Pitcher of the Year. Houston's Cade Climie became the first Cougar to receive preseason Big 12 baseball recognition and TCU's Noah Franco was selected as the Preseason Freshman of the Year.

Schubart was named an All-American in 2024 and became the 13th player in OSU history to do so in multiple seasons. The 2024 All-Big 12 Second Team member recorded 21 multi-hit games as well as a team-leading 20 multi-RBI contests. The junior led the Big 12 in home runs (23), RBIs (68), slugging percentage (.838) and on-base percentage (.513) and set a Big 12 record with 18 total bases against Wichita State (April 30).

Voegele was picked as a 2024 First Team Freshman All-American and earned Big 12 Freshman of the Year after posting a 7-2 record with a 3.32 ERA. The righty from Columbia, Illinois struck out 80 batters in his collegiate debut season, the most by a freshman in program history, and tied a school record for freshmen with 15 starts.

Climie was named the NJCAA World Series MVP after leading Blinn to the NJCAA National Championship. The right-handed batter finished with 20 home runs and 76 RBIs on a .394 batting average. He recorded 27 multi-hit games which included eight three-hit games and one four-hit game.

Franco, a left-handed pitcher from Downey, California, was rated as one of the top 100 prospects in the Major League Baseball Draft and was a two-time member of the 18U USA Baseball National Team. The two-way player was named a high school All-American by MLB, Baseball America, Under Armour and Perfect Game as he hit .337 with a 0.89 ERA as a senior.

Schubart and Voegele were joined by TCU's Ben Abeldt as those unanimously selected to the Preseason All-Big 12 team. All 14 Big 12 squads open the season on Friday, Feb. 14.

The top 12 teams in the Conference standings will qualify for the 2025 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship in Arlington, Texas, May 21-24 at Globe Life Field.
