Cowgirls Power Through in Wichita with Tight Win and Run Rule

WICHITA, Kan. – No. 16/15 Oklahoma State was back on the diamond in Wichita, Kan. on Thursday, Feb. 27 for a doubleheader. The Cowgirls swept the day in different fashion winning a tight one with South Dakota State before cranking up the bats for a run rule against the host Wichita State

An offensive eruption resulted in an 11-2 win over Wichita State. The Cowgirls set season highs with 11 runs and 16 hits in dominating a quality WSU team that was picked to win the American Athletic Conference. OSU extended its winning streak to six games and improved to 10-4 overall, while the Shockers dropped to 9-6 with the loss.  

Rachael Hathoot opened the scoring for Oklahoma State in the first inning with an RBI double to score Karli Godwin. Tia Warsop pushed the lead to three by singling in Hathoot and Micaela Wark.  

The Shockers got two runs back in the bottom of the inning thanks to an RBI double from Taylor Sedlacek and a Cowgirl error which allowed Lauren Lucas to score.  

Karli Godwin hit an RBI single to score Megan Bloodworth in the second inning. Bloodworth blasted a two-run homer with Amanda Hasler on base to give the Cowgirls a four run lead in the fourth.  

Hasler hit an RBI single in the fifth inning to score Tia Warsop, and Rosie Davis pushed the game to run rule territory with a bases-clearing double to score Megan Delgadillo, Bloodworth and Hasler. Karli Godwin brought Davis home with a sacrifice fly to add another run.  

Ruby Meylan improved to 5-0 with the win, pitching for three innings with six strikeouts and one hit allowed. Alex Aguilar took the loss for Wichita State to fall to 6-2 on the year. Kyra Aycock got the start for OSU and struck out two in two innings of work. 

Offensive standouts for the Cowgirls included Bloodworth (3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs), Davis (1-for-4 with a double and three RBIs) and Hathoot (1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.) 

Earlier in the day in Wichita, Amanda Hasler hit two home runs to lift the Cowgirls to a 3-2 win over South Dakota State at Wilkins Stadium.  

South Dakota State opened the scoring with a two-run single from Emma Vike in the second inning, but  Hasler responded in the bottom half of the inning with a solo shot to right center to get Oklahoma State on the board.

The Cowgirls tied the game in the fifth thanks to a Rosie Davis double that scored Tallen Edwards. Hasler added the game-winning homer in the sixth. In doing so, she logged the first Cowgirl multi-homer game since Jilyen Poullard against Kentucky in last season's NCAA Stillwater Regional.  

Ruby Meylan improved to 4-0 with the win, pitching 2.1 innings with four strikeouts and no hits allowed. Amanda Vacanti took the loss for the Jackrabbits and dropped to 1-1. 

Offensive standouts for the Cowgirls included Hasler (2-for-3 with two home runs), Davis (1-for-2 with an RBI double) and Edwards (2-for-3 with a run.) 

The Cowgirls return to action at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow against No. 18/16 Nebraska.
