Oklahoma State Sets Program Conference Win Record In 57-51 Win Over Kansas

It was a record-setting performance for the Oklahoma State women’s basketball team on Sunday as they recorded a 14th conference win in the 57-51 win over the Kansas Jayhawks up in Lawrence, KS.

With the win, the No. 21 Cowgirls moved to 24-5 overall on the season and 14-4 in Big 12 play to finish third in the conference.

“I’m just really proud of our team today,” head coach Jacie Hoyt said after the win. “It’s so hard to win on the road and it’s hard to win in March. Kansas does such a good job defensively, they gave us problems the first time we played them, obviously, and that’s just what they do. They’re really good. I thought Tenin Magassa was a huge difference maker, and when we’re going 5-for-23 from the 3-point line, it’s not good for us. You’ve got to find other ways to win and that’s where I’m really proud because that’s where Tenin stepped up and made a huge difference with a double-double. Micah Gray made big-time shots down the stretch. I was proud of our team.”

Magassa led the way in scoring with 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor with 16 rebounds, 13 of which came on the defensive end. She also recorded six blocks.

Gray was second on the stat sheet with 17 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the floor, 4-of-8 from 3-point range.

As a team, the Cowgirls shot 40% from the floor, just 22% from 3-point range and 78% from the free throw line. It was dead even on rebounds with each team having 37 boards, and it was gutsy and says a lot about this team because they turned the ball over three more times than the Jayhawks, leading to 17 points on the other end.

The Cowgirls finished the game on a 6-0 run in the final minute and a half, while holding KU to a more than two-minute scoring drought.

The Pokes will have a few extra days off this week as they won’t start the Big 12 tournament up in Kansas City until the quarterfinals as they finished the regular season as a top four team.
