Cowboys Ethan Fang and Preston Stout Wreck Shop at the Walker Cup
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Forget the official line about “U.S. wins the Walker Cup 17-9.” That’s fine and all, but the real headline is this: Oklahoma State showed up at Cypress Point with two Cowboys, and both of them left their boot prints all over Great Britain and Ireland.
Preston Stout went out Saturday and just flat cooked Charlie Forster. Six and five. Done before the back nine even had time to matter. You don’t see many matches that one-sided in this thing. The Oklahoma State All-American went out and treated international play like a mid-season tune-up.
Ethan Fang was quieter Saturday, grinding out a half point, but he wasn’t staying quiet for long. Sunday he decided enough with the polite stuff and bulldozed Stuart Gehan 5 and 4. Three straight wins as he made the turn and it was over.
On Sunday Stout didn't let up. The guy closed out the whole deal. Playing Luke Poulter — yep, son of that (Ian) Poulter — Stout threw the hammer down at 17, sticking it to two feet for birdie and ending the Walker Cup right there. The Cowboy junior delivered the clinching point and didn’t flinch.
So yeah, the USA keeps padding the all-time record (40-9-1 now), but Pokes fans know what really happened: Fang and Stout were the muscle. Cowboys turned Pebble Beach into Karsten Creek West for the weekend.
