Oklahoma State Beats Cincinnati 91-63 to Open Big 12 Play
CINCINNATI — Oklahoma State's women's basketball team opened Big 12 play on Sunday afternoon with a 91-63 victory over Cincinnati inside Fifth Third Arena.
OSU improved to 12-2 with the victory, while the Bearcats dipped to 5-8.
Halfway through the first, the Cowgirls trailed the Bearcats, 11-9, with Haleigh Timmer providing the OSU offense with three 3-pointers. After the media timeout, Timmer drilled her fourth trey of the quarter to give OSU its first lead of the day.
Timmer would finish the quarter with 17 points, hitting six of her seven shots from the floor, including a 5-of-6 effort from the 3-point line, to give OSU a 20-15 lead through the first 10 minutes.
The Cowgirls started the second with an 11-2 run highlighted by a Lena Girardi 3-pointer to push the lead to 31-17 and force a Bearcat timeout at the 6:01 mark.
OSU would take a 43-27 lead into the halftime locker room after connecting on nine shots from beyond the arc.
Micah Gray opened the scoring for OSU in the second half with a 3-pointer to surpass 1,500 points for her career. Timmer followed with her sixth trey of the day to match her career high and extend the Cowgirl lead to 49-30.
The Cowgirls would get back-to-back 3-pointers from Timmer and Whiting to push the margin to 56-34 halfway through the quarter. OSU would take a 70-46 lead into the final quarter.
Timmer led the way with a career-high 35 points and finished one trey shy of matching the school's single-game mark, hitting nine of her 12 attempts.
Gray logged her fourth consecutive 20-point outing, finishing with 21 in the contest.
