STILLWATER – I wish I could give you great details on what is going on inside the Oklahoma State football strength and conditioning center down in the bottom level of the West End Zone of Boone Pickens Stadium. The new Oklahoma State team under head coach Eric Morris is now being guided by new strength and conditioning coach Bryan Kegans. One of the very few links to the past of Oklahoma State football is assistant strength and conditioning coach Gary Calcagno. Calcagno was the top assistant for Rob Glass and was one of the very few people from the former regime that was kept by Morris.

Just judging by the video released, the hard work is evident and is always going to be a major part of an offseason program. Kegans is a protege’ of former Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, USC, and now as of January 2026 the coordinator strength and conditioning at the University of Houston Benny Wylie. Wylie is a big name and a major influence on strength and conditioning for college football. Kegans worked under Wylie at Texas, Oklahoma, and USC before going to North Texas to take over the football strength program under Morris. Morris eventually named Kegans assistant head coach in football. Not a bad move considering how much influence the strength coach has over a football team.

Kegans holds certifications from CSCCA (collegiate strength and conditioning coaches association), SCCC (strength & conditioning coach certified), NSCA (strength and conditioning specialist), and NASM (performance enhancement specialist, corrective exercise specialist and functional movement specialist).

I used to have complete access under Mike Gundy and often went to the weight room and watched offseason workouts to get a better idea on players, especially new ones. I also liked seeing the process of team building, both physically and mentally that goes on with the offseason program.

One aspect of this program, under Kegans, that you can see even in the brief videos that have been released on the Oklahoma State football Twitter/X site is that the team building is prominent.

Also, Oklahoma State football will be holding walkon tryouts soon. I checked with associate athletic director for compliane Ben Dyson. Any walkons that make it through the tryouts and are added to the program would count against the 105 for the spring. To count against the 105 for the season they would have to be kept through the summer and preseason camp into the fall.
