PHOENIX – Oklahoma State evened its series with Grand Canyon Friday night as the Cowboys picked up a 9-1 victory at GCU Ballpark.
With the win, the Cowboys improved to 2-3, while GCU fell to 2-3.
The Pokes smashed three home runs on the night, with Sebastian Norman, Kollin Ritchie and Aidan Meola all going deep. Ritchie finished with a game-high three RBIs, while in the first game of his collegiate career, Remo Indomenicowent 2-for-5 with a double and a triple and drove in a pair of runs.
Hudson Barrett tossed a gem for his first win in an OSU uniform as the southpaw struck out a career-high nine over six shutout innings to improve to 1-1. He allowed just four hits and one walk.
OSU jumped in front on Norman's first-career home run, a no-doubt shot to left field to lead off the third inning.
The Cowboys extended their lead in the fourth, rallying for five runs on five hits. Terrance Bowen got things started with an RBI single, the first hit of his career, and Evan Saunders followed by driving in the first run of his career on a fielder's choice.
Up next, Indomenico delivered his first career hit and RBIs with a two-run triple to right field, and Ritchie followed with an infield single to bring home a run and make the score 6-0.
OSU's power surge continued in the sixth. Following a two-out double by Indomenico, Ritchie crushed a two-run bomb to right field. Up next, Aidan Meola drilled a shot over the left-field wall as the back-to-back jacks extended the Cowboys' lead to 9-0.
The Lopes plated their lone run in the seventh inning off OSU reliever TP Wentworth, who made his season debut on the mound and worked two innings before Drew Winslow closed things out with a scoreless ninth.
The two teams return to action Saturday at 3 p.m. (CDT).
