Ruby Meylan Throws First Collegiate No-Hitter in 10-0 Run Rule Win Over Colorado State
SAN MARCOS, Texas – Ruby Meylan threw the first no-hitter of her collegiate career on just 46 pitches to headline a 10-0 run-rule win for the Oklahoma State softball team over Colorado State in five innings at the River State Classic Friday.
Meylan's no-hitter was the 64th in school history and the first for a Cowgirl since Lexi Kilfoyl accomplished the feat against Maine in 2023. Meylan had nine career one-hitters entering the contest, including in her previous outing against Texas State yesterday.
"I felt good and as the game went on, I knew I needed to stay calm and execute," Meylan said. "When the last out happened, I was stoked and excited. It feels freeing to know the first one is done. Hopefully, there are more coming."
The senior from Omaha struck out five batters and allowed no walks. Of the 10 balls put in play, nine resulted in ground outs and just one was a fly out. The only thing that kept Meylan from recording a perfect game was a second-inning throwing error that gave the Rams their only baserunner of the contest.
The final out of the game came when Meylan got Abby Edwards to strike out swinging, which sent the entire Oklahoma State team in a rush toward the circle to celebrate.
"At the end, I didn't know if anyone else knew that it was a no-hitter, but I knew," Meylan said. "When the last out happened, Amanda (Hasler) yelled loud and everyone ran over, which was awesome."
The win improved OSU to 10-4 on the season and was the Cowgirls' seventh in their last eight games. The Rams fell to 4-8 on the year.
Holding a 2-0 lead through two innings, the Cowgirls created separation with a three-run third inning that included a run-scoring double from Claire Timm and a two-run home run from Amanda Hasler. Timm extended her hitting streak to seven games by going 1-for-2. At the River State Classic, Timm has gone 7-for-10 with a double, two triples, a home run and eight runs batted in.
Hasler's home run was the 19th of her OSU career, which places her just one shy of entering the school's career top 20 even though the NC State transfer has only played in 64 games as a Cowgirl.
OSU added a run in the fourth inning, then pushed the game into run-rule territory with a four-run fifth that was headlined by a two-run home run by freshman Jayelle Austin. It was her team-leading fourth of the season.
In their four games at the River State Classic, the Cowgirls have outscored the opposition by a combined margin of 41-1. Three of OSU's four wins at the event have come in run-rule fashion.
The Cowgirls conclude their run at the event when they take on Brown at 4 p.m. CT tomorrow. When the two teams met earlier today, OSU was a 14-0 run-rule winner in five innings.
