No. 21 Oklahoma State has competed the upset of No. 1 Oklahoma as they beat the Sooners 6-4 at Devon Park in Oklahoma City.
With the win, the Cowgirls improved 28-11 overall on the season. It marked the Cowgirls’ first win over a No. 1 team since they beat the Sooners in the Big 12 championship game back in 2022.
Pitcher Ruby Meylan threw every pitch for the Pokes, 133, recording nine strikeouts and one walk, while giving up seven hits and four runs, just two of them earned. She has now been the winning pitcher in the last 14 OSU wins and is 18-6 overall on the season.
The Cowgirls got the scoring started as Tia Warsop hit a nine-pitch RBI double into right center field to score Libby Jaques from second. Warsop finished the game going 2-for-3 from the play with two doubles and two RBIs.
The Sooners would take a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning on a two-run homer from freshman Kendall Wells.
The Cowgirls really turned up the pressure as they would score four-unanswered runs across the third, fourth and fifth innings to go up 5-2.
The Sooners would answer in the top of the six inning with two runs which started with an error by Karli Godwin when a ground ball got through to right field from Ailana Agbayani.
Agbayani scored from second and Allyssa Parker from first following a double to left field by Abby Dayton to make it 5-4 Cowgirls.
But the Pokes were done as Godwin got one of the runs back as she scored from second base following a single by Lexi McDonald to make it 6-4.
Meylan was excellent in the top of the seventh inning as she recorded two ground outs and one strikeout, that being the freshman phenom Wells.
The Cowgirls are back in action this coming weekend as they’re set to host Arizona.
