Oklahoma State Records 16-0 First Round Run-Rule Win Over Eastern Illinois

STILLWATER – The 13th ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls rolled through their first game of the NCAA Stillwater Regional as they beat Eastern Illinois 16-0 in five innings. 

With the win, they improved to 39-15 overall on the season, gave the Pokes 16-straight win at a Stillwater Regional and their largest margin of victory in a postseason game in the NCAA era.

The pokes will face Stanford Saturday at noon CT. 

“A great first game for the Cowgirls,” Kenny Gajewski said. “We were just relentless with our bats; hit a lot of balls hard and then had some good fortune with some tough hits against them, but we’ll take them. We’ve had a lot of hits this year where we’ve hit them right at some people hard and didn’t get rewarded, so we’ll take it. Just a good offensive performance up and down the lineup. Thought Ruby [Meylan] was solid; looked like she was a hair rusty after not throwing for a week. RyLee [Crandall] came in and was really good. But just proud of these guys here, it’s why you love having seniors in your lineup.”

Pitcher Ruby Meylan got the start, going 2.0 innings with no hits, three strikeouts and just one walk.

RyLee Crandall came into the game in relief in the top of the third inning, giving up three hits with two strikeouts and picked up the win. 

Several Cowgirl hitters were great from the plate, with Karli Godwin, Lexi McDonald and Amanda Hasler all batting 1.000. Godwin and Hasler each went 3-for-3, with one home run apiece and Hasler recording three RBIs and Godwin one. McDonald went 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBIs.

It was an offensive explosion for the Pokes as they put five runs across in the bottom of the first, four across in both the second and third innings and three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
