Mason Rudolph Signs One-Year Extension With Pittsburgh

Former Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph will be sticking around in Pittsburgh for at least one more season. The Steelers announced on Thursday they were signing Rudolph to a one-year contract extension.

According to a report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the extension is worth $5 million with up to $4 million additional in incentives based on playtime this upcoming season.

This extension makes Rudolph the only quarterback on the Steelers’ roster who’s under contract through the 2022 season. Ben Roethlisberger is under contract through the end of the 2021 season.

It’s certainly possible the Steelers could draft a quarterback somewhere between the second and seventh round, but it’s apparent the Steelers are giving Rudolph one more season to prove he’s Big Ben’s heir apparent.

Rudolph was drafted by the Steelers in the third round, the 76th overall pick, of the 2018 NFL Draft. Since then, he’s played in 15 games over the course of three season, including eight starts during the 2019 season when Roethlisberger went down with an injury.

In those 15 games, he’s completed 201-of-326 passes for 2,089 yards and 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

I'm glad to see this. Really hoping that Rudolph can do what he needs to do in order to take the reins after Big Ben retires or moves on. I'd sure love to see some of that Rudolph-to-Washington magic brought to the NFL stage. I might decide to watch some pro ball for that...

I don't like the Steelers, but I love these Pokes...so I want them to succeed individually but not the team...bit of a conundrum.....Like to see them with the Rams!!!
