NORMAN, Okla. – Oklahoma State dropped the Bedlam Series Saturday as Oklahoma posted a clinching 5-3 win over the 18th-ranked Cowboys at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

With the loss, OSU fell to 24-14-1 overall and 7-10 in Big 12 Conference play, while the Sooners are 22-19 and 6-8 in the league.

This marks only the second time under ninth-year head coach Josh Holliday that OSU has lost a Bedlam Series. The only other time the Cowboys dropped the series came in 2016.

Kale Davis took the loss on the mound to fall to 0-2 on the season as the right-hander surrendered two runs in two innings out of the bullpen.

Offensively, Max Hewitt led the Cowboys with a 2-for-3 day that included a home run, while Justin Campbell also homered.

Campbell started the game on the mound as well as at DH and worked five innings, allowing just two runs on seven hits while striking out four.

OU took the game’s initial lead in the second. After three-straight singles to open the frame loaded the bases, a walk brought home the first run before an RBI single made the score 2-0.

The Cowboys cut their deficit in half in the third when Christian Encarnacion-Strand delivered a sacrifice fly to center field with runners on the corners to plate OSU’s first run.

Campbell would help his own cause in the fourth as he blasted his first home run of the season, an opposite-field solo shot over the wall in right that tied the score at 2-2.

OSU used another long ball to take its first lead in the fifth. This one came off the bat of Hewitt, as he deposited a pitch over the left-center field wall to put the Pokes up, 3-2.

The Cowboys clung to the one-run advantage until the seventh when a two-out, two-run home run by Brett Squires put OU back on top. The Sooners added a run in the eighth to push their lead to 5-3.

Jason Ruffcorn picked up the win for OU as he came out of the bullpen and worked the final 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs and striking out 10 to improve to 4-1.

Sunday’s series finale is scheduled for a 4 p.m. first pitch.
