STILLWATER – Will Eric Morris and Oklahoma State need a new quarterback next season? It certainly seems possible, especially if ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. is correct with the first rendition of his 2027 Big Board. On Thursday, Kiper has Cowboy quarterback Drew Mestemaker in the No. 2 spot, behind Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith.

Kiper made sure to note this is not a mock draft, but rather just his list of top players.

Mestemaker is off to a stellar start to his first season in Stillwater, just his second as a varsity starter. The redshirt sophomore out of Austin, TX is completing 67% of his passes through five games for 1.575 yards and 13 touchdowns to five interceptions. He also has 15 carries for 108 yards and two touchdowns.

Aside from the season-opening loss to Tulsa, Mestemaker has the Cowboys rolling as they’re 4-1 on the season, including a 2-0 start to Big 12 play for the first time since 2022.

Does all this mean Mestemaker his going to go to the NFL after this season? It does not. He’s still got a year left of his “contract” with OSU, which will pay him around $4 million. However, a top 10 draft slot could be hard to turn down, especially if the Cowboys continue to play very well throughout the rest of conference play.

The Pokes are on the road this Saturday for a top 20 showdown with Houston, a game in which Mestemaker can continue to turn NFL heads.
