Report: Mike Boynton and Co. to Meet With Fordham Center Joel Soriano

seems like we're really scraping he bottom of the barrel to get anybody in here.... a guy who could not even start for Fordham?

I'll cheer for him if he's a Pokes, but I'm really, really concerned about the future of the program.

Fordham went 2-12 (fourteen games) Against nobody teams.... I think they only played 2 teams with winning records. (I scrolled through, but might have missed one)

here's the game against one of the better teams that they played (Travis Ford's St. Louis team). Fordam lost by 28 points (68-40), and Soriano played only 18 minutes fouling out with 4 points.

I'm not trying to pick on the kid, we need some help inside... that's the one area that I am most critical of Boynton. I'm glad he's looking at getting some help inside - we simply should not have to be scraping the portal for any help at all because we can't get legitimate recruits in the class. (for whatever excuse some want to throw out there)

To be fair, Coach Boynton didn't just discover the need for an inside presence. If I recall correctly, Boynton's first signing class after becoming HC included at least three players 6'8" or taller Yor Anei, Duncan Demuth, and Maurice Calloo. Kentrevious Jones (6'10" center) was signed, I believe, while Boynton was assistant to Underwood.

Jones and Calloo (along with Michael Weathers) were dismissed in early 2019 after the vandalism incident involving a BB gun and multiple vehicles. Those dismissals, along with a couple others earlier that season, left Boynton with only 7 or 8 players on scholarship. I believe Demuth was here through that season, but entered the transfer portal at the end of the season.

Yor Anei left last summer in the aftermath of a Covid-shortened season and the announcement of NCAA sanctions.

One can only speculate what our 2021 team might have looked like with some combination of Anei, Calloo, Jones, or Demuth still on the team.

well, of course he knows he needs some height.... he just can't keep in on the roster (as you pointed out)

and I think you missed Hidde Roessink, and N'Guessan, Boynton was the HC when he was here.

not sure how tall Pena was, but he was supposed to play inside.

All that aside, Coach B knew that we were short handed inside for next year with a couple of ships to offer (IN THIS CLASS), but we didn't get anybody in to tutor behind Boone (who will be a JR)

I'm not sure how "fair" one needs to be.... he knew we only had Boone returning, and we have nothing in the works, with no great prospects on the horizon.

I hope he can pull a rabbit out of his hat, but frankly we should not be in a position of needing magic tricks to fill the class and get a big man.

This could be a solid addition....we need height!!

I was mainly recalling players in Boynton's first recruiting class; plus Jones was a freshman in Boynton's first year. I believe N'Guessan was a freshman during Underwood's single season and Roessink came later.

Speaking of Roessink, he transferred about the same time as Anei. I can't say what was in their minds, but it is likely the announced NCAA sanctions had some impact on their decision.

As for this year, the NCAA is *still* dragging their feet on a decision, even though they supposedly heard the appeal back in February. The threat of sanctions has been a ball and chain shackled to Boynton through this entire recruiting season. It is remarkable that Coach B was able to keep last year's recruiting class intact, but the transfer of Anei and Roessink were two big losses.

As for Montreal Pena, I think he was listed as 6'10" and he supposedly left for personal reasons. I haven't found any article online that says he transferred to another school.

A January article by Zach Lancaster quoted Boynton as saying "I'm still in contact with him, but he needed to step away from college right now to get things in order."

Maybe there is a possibility that Pena might return next year.

The guys I listed were on Boynton's teams (or listed on his roster).

I'm not buying the penalty excuse, or any of the other excuses...

I "sound like" a pragmatist.

Attendance is down in part because of Covid- I decided I am going to buy BB tickets this year and just buy FB tickets from the OSU boards and OSU sellers at the games.....save a bunch of money!
