Offensive Line and Run Game Actually was Better Despite Injury Issues at WR

STILLWATER – As fans showed up at Boone Pickens Stadium and the Cowboy crowds have become very late arriving these days, maybe a product of the COVID-19 pandemic and limited crowds in the 2020 season. Anyway, the fans had no idea that Tay Martin was set up to not last long and he made it one play. Another veteran receiver Brayden Johnson is done for the season with a medical condition. Of course, last week there was Langston Anderson breaking his foot in warm-ups.

Robert,

Part of the reason Tulsa could stack the box is that most of our passing attack was horizontal. they didn't have to defend the middle or deep. After Sander's pick-6 I don't recall another throw in the middle for the entire 3rd Q. I understand that theses horizontal throws are "safe" but they make you one dimensional. These are just "long" hand-off running plays.

I had hoped that Sanders's would make a Zach Robinson type of "break through" but he looks more like Donavan Woods just before he was replaced.

The offense, yes I know there are injury issues, looks like the defense knows the playbook better than they do. I hope Dunn has been holding back some for tougher opponents like Boise and will come out like they did against Miami in the Cheez Whiz Bowl. Sanders reminds me of J-Dub a bunch and both are solid Cowboys but the offense is erratic at best. GO POKES!!!

You have to back them off if you can but with our O-line, the protection for deep throws hasn't been there.

We have to play who we have but you can't be so easy to defend you don't give your guys a chance. The older Gundy gets the more risk averse he becomes. That puts our defense on the field the whole game due to no productivity offensively and causes our fans to sit on their hands or leave all together,

What has happened to Rashod Owens? How come he is not playing? Is he hurt or just not good enough? Thanks

I might be reading the stats wrong, but I think he had 1 ball thrown his way in each game. 1 reception vs. MISSOURI ST. for 28 yards. 1 target/no reception vs. TU.

I'm not a former coach, but expect it's tougher to make many special throws/play calls when 3 of your 4 top receivers are out with injury and your returning, experienced player has only about 3 games under his belt!

Calpoke asked what I was going to ask - where's Owens? I guess I didn't realize our cupboard was that bare in that we only have (4) upperclassmen receivers - Martin, Johnson, Anderson and Owens that conceivably can/could play?

That being said, I sit on the third row and 85 is a thoroughbred. He will be a stud. The next big wr star if he wants it! Impressive looking young man.

As for the late arrivals, at least on the South side of the stadium they need more folks scanning tickets, the lines were crazy and not all the gates were open and with digital tickets, it takes longer. You can't "fan out" your (4) paper tickets for the scanner to zap each one boom boom boom, now they have to align their scanner w your screen (glare and angles and all that nonsense contributes to the delay) and then you gotta swipe right to get the next ticket on your screen, etc etc. I've only got (4) tix, but naturally one was difficult to scan and there are your delays and late arrivals! Just my perspective standing in line for more than 20 minutes to get in the express "no check" gate. Sucked missing the anthem and flyover on 9/11.

Maybe they need more scanners? Or better ones?

Go Cowboys!

Those horizontal plays require the wide receivers to hold there blocks which the freshman don't do well. But we keep throwing them.
What is wrong with the lines strength and conditioning if they can not win the line of scrimmage against Missouri State!!!!!
Robert, the fans could care less if Casey Dunn loves his players! Dunn needs to start being more creative with his play calling and using the talent he has on the field. Dunn only got the job because Insecure Gundy doesn't want a coordinator that's smarter than him!

I don't think you're going to find a sympathetic audience here to the trite rant of "blame Gundy for everything, he's responsible for everything, the sky is falling until we run Gundy out of town with tar & feathers". Certainly a lot of questioning of the methods and means goes on here, and in a relatively studied manner. But if you're going to push the "Get rid of Gundy" narrative, I suggest the Pistols Firing or GoPokes 247 message boards (although the operators & writers on those websites are better in tune with reality than the message board participants).
