Oklahoma State Moves Up in Rankings Following Jamyron Keller Commitment

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State landed its second commitment in the 2023 class on Sunday evening: combo guard Jamyron Keller out of Ellison HS in Killeen, TX.

Following the commitment, the Cowboys’ 2023 recruiting class moved up to No. 12 in the nation, according to the 247Sports rankings.

It marks the fourth top-25 recruiting class for Mike Boynton and Co. While the 2021 class isn’t included in the “official” rankings because it was nothing by transfers, I think it’s safe to say the impact Moussa Cisse, Bryce Thompson and Tyreek Smith had on the season gives the Pokes one of the best ‘21 recruiting classes during the cycle.

Keller, a three-star ranked No. 159 in the 2023 class, joined four-star center, Brandon Garrison. Garrison is out of Del City (OK) High School and is ranked as the No. 52 overall prospect in the 2023 class, the No. 6 overall center and the No. 1 ranked recruit out of Oklahoma.

In fact, how Garrison is ranked by 247Sports, 0.9780, he’s just a few ticks away from being ranked as a five-star prospect. Now, I know those aren’t given away easily, but it goes to show just how talented Garrison is.

With OSU seemingly set to lose its two centers after this season, Kalib Boone to graduation and Moussa Cisse most likely to the NBA Draft (not guaranteed, but a good possibility,) I’d expect Boynton and Co. to pursue another big man in the transfer portal after this season.

They’ll also lose at least five guards to graduation, Avery Anderson III, Chris Harris Jr., Caleb Asberry, Russell Harrison and John-Michael Wright. So, while they’ll need to figure out how to reduce by three scholarships over the next couple of years, they’ll still have a handful of spots to fill and I’d imagine they’ll utilize the transfer portal there as well.

that 24x7 article lists only TWO top 25 classes (excluding 2023, since it's not final).

I wish to heck that we were succeeding, but we're not, and these glowing projections that keep being made are freaking ridiculous. This is year 6, I hope to heck we can make the big dance this year, but half our team just walked out on him and we've never seen many of the kids needed for this year.

most of the classes were quite low rated. (one not rated, and the other 3 lower than 60th), and almost all of those HS kids are long gone already. Coach Mike seems to be able to find transfers, but even that has been pretty dang spotty..... (Flavors, Bryce Williams, Laurent, Newton, Smith, Cisse, Bryce Thompson, have not played Wright, Harrison, Asberry)

2022 No. 83 Composite / No. 9 Big 12 (HS Signees: 1) (Q. Williams - has not played)

2021 N/a (HS Signees: 0)

2020 No. 13 Composite / No. 2 Big 12 (HS Signees: 6) (Kouma: gone Cade, Pena, Moncrief, Walker, Do.Williams)

2019 No. 24 Composite / No. 5 Big 12 (HS Signees: 5) (Anderson, Harris, KaBoone; gone KeBoone, Watson)

2018 No. 60 Composite / No. 8 Big 12 (HS Signees: 4) (all gone: Likekele, Anei, Calloo, Demuth)

2017 No. 70 Composite / No. 8 Big 12 (HS Signees: 3) (all gone: Kentrivious Jones)

The only reason I said it's three out of the last five, as I wrote in the article, was because they didn't sign any high school kids in the 2021 class and 247 doesn't rank transfers.

"While the 2021 class isn't included in the "official" rankings because it was nothing but transfers, I think it's safe to say the impact Moussa Cisse, Bryce Thompson and Tyreek Smith had on the season gives the Pokes one of the best '21 recruiting classes during the cycle."

yeah, I read what you wrote... I don't agree.

Our transfers are spotty at best, like I said.

Our recruiting classes have been mostly crap (over 5 years), and our transfers are 50/50 at best.

I listed their names, you can see them. only about half of the transfers have panned out, and this recent group are all low rated 3-star guys.
