Griffin Doersching Named Minor League Single-A Player of the Week

Former Oklahoma State slugger Griffin Doersching has been on a bit of a tear the past week or so. So much so that he’s been named Minor League Baseball’s Single-A Player of the Week.

Doersching was drafted in the eighth round of the 2022 MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres and has spent the past eight games with the Lake Elsinore Storm, the Padres’ Single-A affiliate in the California League.

In eight games with the Storm, Doersching is hitting .370 with 10 hits, in which six of those hits were home runs with 10 RBIs. He’s recorded 10 strikeouts and eight walks.

This comes after a brief five-game stop in the Arizona Complex League with the Padres’ rookie team. In those five games, Doersching hit an impressive .400 with four hits in 10 at-bats, including one home run with two strikeouts and walks a piece.

If he continues at this pace, it’s very possible we see a jump next season like we saw with Christian Encarnacion-Strand. CES was drafted by the Minnesota Twins and started his career in short season rookie ball. He started the 2022 season in Single-A and was promoted to AA halfway through the season before being traded to the Cincinnati Reds organization.

Before being traded, CES was hitting .333 with the AA Wichita Wind Surge, which included 18 hits, five home runs and 17 RBIs. He’s currently hitting .278 with the AA Chattanooga Lookout.
