Oklahoma State's Home Runs Make Short Game vs. Dallas Baptist

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State extended its winning streak to 12 games with a convincing 20-4 run-rule victory over Dallas Baptist in seven innings Tuesday at O'Brate Stadium. With the win, the 12th-ranked Cowboys improved to 15-3, while Dallas Baptist fell to 11-6.

OSU's 12-game winning streak is tied for the second longest of the Josh Holliday head coaching era. The Cowboys had a 14-game streak that covered the 2020-21 seasons (last five games of COVID shortened '20 season and first nine of '21), and OSU also went on a 12-game winning streak in 2014.

The Cowboys racked up 19 hits in the contest, with six players collecting multiple hits. OSU also had five players drive in multiple runs on the night.

Chase Adkison had a career-night at the plate, tying a career-best with four hits, including two home runs in the fifth inning. Adkison collected a career-high six RBIs and scored three runs.

“We knew they had a good pitching staff and we did our homework and were ready,” Adkison said of the night that included his first two home runs of the season and he is hitting over .383 on the season. “I’ve worked on my timing and when I load my swing. It’s a good time to be starting conference.”

No doubt, the pitchers are coming together and the team is hitting .323 and has already produced 156 runs this season. 

Colin Brueggemann went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, while reigning Big 12 Player of the Week Roc Riggio added three hits, including a homer, and also drove in three runs.

Abram faced only nine in three innings and struck out six Patriots.

Ben Abram picked up the win on the mound, working three shutout innings and striking out six while not allowing a hit. Abram was pulled after three without giving up a hit and facing the minimum nine hitter. He hit one, but then picked him off at first base. The early exit reserves him for potential duty in Lubbock in the conference opening series this weekend.

OSU jumped in front in the second inning, scoring five runs on five hits with RBI singles from Brueggemann, Adkison and Riggio.

Carson Benge's RBI double in the third extended the Cowboys' lead to 8-0 before Dallas Baptist put its first run on the board in the top of the fourth.

Aidan Meola's second home run of the season put the Pokes up 11-1 after four innings, but the Patriots bounced back with three runs of their own in the fifth.

But home runs from Adkinson and Riggio crushed any chances of a Patriot comeback as the Cowboy offense continued to stack hit after hit in the bottom of the fifth. OSU scored nine runs on seven hits, including three homers, to take a 20-4 lead. 

Adkison achieved a rare feat in the frame as he homered twice, leading off the inning with his first round tripper of the season before later stepping to the plate with two runners on base and delivering another blast over the wall. His two home runs were tracked at 399 and 421 feet respectively.

The Cowboys will be back in action Friday at 6:30 p.m. when they open Big 12 Conference play against Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas. Both the Saturday and Sunday games against the Red Raiders are scheduled for 2 p.m.
