Oklahoma State Baseball Extends Winning Streak With 8-5 Win Over Michigan
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Oklahoma State's win streak reached seven Sunday as the 17th-ranked Cowboys knocked off Michigan, 8-5, at Ray Fisher Stadium.
With the win, OSU improved to 30-13, while the Wolverines fell to 21-20.
Ben Abram turned in a strong performance on the mound to improve to 6-2, with the six wins marking the most by a Cowboy on the season. The right-hander allowed four runs over six innings and tallied nine strikeouts, one shy of his career high.
Evan O'Toole and Drew Blake followed Abram for the next 2 2/3 innings, and Isaac Stebens needed just one pitch to record his second save of the series and fifth of the season.
Tyler Wulfert led the Cowboys with a 2-for-5, three-RBI day at the plate, while Carson Benge was 2-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs. Zach Ehrhard also homered and picked up two RBIs.
OSU jumped out to an early lead. Ehrhard led off the game with a walk, and after stealing second and advancing to third on a groundout, he scored on a single by Benge to put the Pokes up 1-0.
The Cowboys doubled their lead in the second, plating an unearned run when David Mendham, who reached on an error and took third on a Colin Brueggemann double, scored on a groundout off the bat of Brennan Holt.
In the third, OSU tacked on another run, with Wulfert collecting an RBI on an infield single to make the score 3-0.
Michigan got its first run in the fourth on a solo home run by Jimmy Obertop, but the Cowboys' offense responded in their next at bat.
Ehrhard led off the fifth with his second homer of the season over the wall in left field, and after loading the bases, Wulfert smacked a two-RBI double to center field to push the OSU lead to 6-1.
The Cowboys weren't done as they added runs with the bases loaded on a walk and a hit by pitch.
UM cut into the OSU lead in the bottom of the fifth with another solo home run, this one by pinch hitter Casey Buckley, then added two more in the sixth on a two-out, two-RBI single, also by Buckley, to make the score 8-4.
OSU returns to action Tuesday with a trip to Tulsa to take on Oral Roberts.
